Catherine had had her suspicions and instead of acting on them as immediately as the Council would have liked, she decided to settle in to playing the long game. Perhaps fortunately or unfortunately for Izaak, finding his office number and requesting an appointment hadn't been that hard. That wasn't abuse of her abilities, unless one counted Catherine's ability to do a little research through the internet.
She had taken her own car instead of one of the ones from MCU's pool, and made her way across Dallas to where Izaak's office was. Traffic was as usual, terrible, but then again that gave most of the DA's practice to return from whatever excuse for lunch they'd gone to. Parking, and walking the last few blocks to the office wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been. Catherine had lucked out by landing a cool damp day, the kind that came from spring storms overnight that left everything slightly battered and grateful for the daylight.
"Hi there, I have an two o'clock appointment with Mr. Hammerstein to discuss a case." Catherine said to the secretary as she walked in. She gave the woman a reassuring smile that looked completely human. It was hard to tell just what had sparked fear in the man when it came to his ex wife. For the most part, she dressed attractively and was reasonably attractive herself.

Izaak had seen the name on his calendar and was unimpressed. Still, it seemed to be actual business, so he didn't cancel it, as was his right. The secretary showed Catherine to his office and he stood, holding his hand out. "Ms. Dumitrescu. Please come in, sit down. What brings you to my office today?" Wasn't that the question. There were plenty of attorneys in this city. She could have gone to any of the others.
But she was here, and he was a professional. He did a good job of it as well, even if he wasn't pleased to have her here. If she actually had a case, he'd refer her to someone else. He was entirely too involved, well. Their history made it impossible.
Still, it was...interesting to see her again. She was as lovely as ever, unaging as ever. It made him a little jealous, but he supposed its price was magic use. He wasn't willing to pay that price. Even with his comments on her appearance the other day, he could acknowledge her beauty. A pity the package that came with it, the magic that was involved in maintaining it.

"What brings me here is one of your client's has a bench warrant out for them from a certain agency." Catherine explained as she took a seat in the office. "We both know that's because your client didn't have his backside when and where it was supposed to be last week." She added plainly. There was no magic to things this time at all, instead it had been pure investigation work and timing that had led her to Izaak's door. "I understand you're none to pleased to see me, and I apologize. However I assumed I would be doing you a favor before the same group decides to pull them."
Catherine had seen and experienced that first hand, and when Agathon was especially in a foul mood he could make it exceedingly uncomfortable for the individual in question. Shaking these thoughts from her mind, she turned her attention back to Izaak.

"I see. Thank you for bringing this up with me. Is my client aware he has a bench warrant and what are the charges?" Oh this was going to be great. He was not registered as an attorney for their laws. He wasn't even familiar enough with their laws to serve as any sort of solicitor, even an unlicensed one. Oh he knew the seven big ones of course. Those he had learned from his brother, long ago, but past that, well.
Still, it was good to know. If his client was pulled suddenly to there, well. This was after their unveiling. He did still have mundane rights, even if their government didn't extend the same courtesies.

Catherine raised an eyebrow at Izaak's response, it wasn't exactly what she had expected, but at the same time she was given the pleasure of having information he didn't yet have. "One count of second degree murder and two counts of voluntary man slaughter." She replied factually. Catherine knew that Izaak wasn't nearly as well versed in the unseen laws as she was, nor was he even barred to practice them. A faint shiver of delight ran down her spine at the fact that after so many years she'd finally managed to put him in as equally uncomfortable a position as he had done many times before to her. But that didn't negate the fact that they both had an interest in his client, albeit different ones.
"Turns out your guy took it upon himself to attempt to take out a friendly neighborhood coven of druids." Catherine added, realizing that to most people Druids were ancient history. But they still existed, quietly, and patiently biding their time until the world would accept them again. "Look Izaak, I don't practice any sort of magic anymore..." She explained, attempting to placate the tantrum she was expecting out of her ex. "I'm just serving as a consult, not even a witness since you were rather concerned about my mental health the other week."

"You were put away in a mental asylum Catherine. I heard the charges. It makes sense that I'm concerned about your mental health." Still, the charges were serious. He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "I am assuming that said client is Jeff Dunn, who you saw me with at the courthouse the other day. He was acquitted of charges due to lack of evidence. I am no longer serving as his attorney as I was appointed to his case." But murder charges were serious.
Dunn was no longer his client. And while he couldn't talk details on the previous case, this would be a new one. "Unless I am appointed his attorney by your courts, which I do not practice in, then there's not a lot I can do Catherine. What do you want of me?" He didn't like her and did like her all at the same time. Their relationship was complicated at the best of times and insane at the worst.

"I was put in that hell hole mental asylum on false charges brought up after my father died! I think you would have have a questionable mental state too, considering how you were after your brother died." She challenged. Izaak knew that the asylum was a spot of contention for her, and that she did everything she could not to discuss it. "But either way, it's good to know Dunn isn't your client anymore as this makes it that much easier." Catherine added bluntly. She would report her findings to the Council and they would do whatever it was they had planned for Dunn. It thankfully was an open and shut case.
But in the meantime, she did briefly wonder what had drawn them back together like this. Why wasn't she over him yet? It had been a few years since the divorce, and they hadn't exactly treated one another kindly in the process. "All I'm asking for is any information you can provide about Dunn without breaking confidentiality."

Izaak considered the situation. The request was not unusual, but he did have his reservations on giving up too much information. The man may have been a killer, no doubt verified using some sort of magic to ensure that they had the right man, but he was still a former client. Izaak turned and navigates through his computer. "I can give you his contact information. I'm not comfortable doing more than that."
He hesitates a moment then let it print off. "Catherine...you should be aware. There are...rumblings about your world in mine. They aren't good ones. There's a lot of talk about the legal status of magic users." He wasn't sure what else to say. There had already been harsh responses around the world to the unveiling of this new world. It looked like it may become rough here too.

"Thank you, I understand that." Catherine replied. It wasn't much but it was a start, and would possibly give the Council proof that she was at least trying to work with Izaak. She would have rather gone back to Broadmoore if she'd know she'd be thrown into working with him at any point, and she was almost certain that he felt the same way too. But underneath the professionalism, seemed to be two adults circling and avoiding the issue at hand of their relationship.
"I'm aware Izaak... unfortunately we cannot do anything about what the Council chooses as the benefit for what they deem the greater good. There are those of us who.. will escape most of the pitch forks and fires to come, but there are others who won't." She said with tired sigh. Perhaps that was why Council had decided to appoint her as Dallas's new Warden, it was taking care of an issue and potentially getting rid of a larger issue. "The lucky ones will be the ones who look human and hide well."

"My brother mentioned a reserve once. I suspect that will quickly become a safe haven." The unseen may be in the open now, but he had no doubt that most would remain hidden until everything blew over. If everything blew over. The printer spat out the information and he passed it over to her. "If I may make a suggestion? If you are going to arrest him, go for the morning hours, before 11 am." It was just a suggestion.
But he knew, roughly, when his client was available and he could provide that even if only circumspectly. He did try and cooperate with law enforcement when he could of course. Given his client base, at least some cooperation meant some leniency for many of the clients he served.
Still, she was right to expect pitchforks and fires. Or more accurately guns, and so many of them. He didn't want to be there when the first Unseen person got caught hurting any normal person. No doubt the conservative outlets would go wild over proof of the ungodliness of the unseen.

Catherine was silent when Izaak mentioned the reserve, most of the unseen didn't even speak of it for fear of the haven being revealed. MCU liked to use it as a safe place for those who had no where else to go or without the support of a coven or pack to aid them. "I'll let the officers know... and who said I'm to be one doing the arresting?" She said, hoping she could still feign a solid lack of the English language with him.

Her english had been just fine since she came in, and the other day as well, so he had no doubt she was playing him right now. Let her. It was a ridiculous thing to do. "Then whoever goes to arrest him." He said simply. Seriously, did she think that would work on him? She was probably hiding something if that was the case. And to think he had been sympathetic to the plight of her people, for however short a time.
"Is there anything else I can help you with Catherine?" If not, he had other appointments and other clients and entirely too much paperwork.

While she might have been playing him, she was also more concerned with avoiding a particularly explosive subject. One that had resulted in numerous fights and arguments between the two over the years. Him accusing her of denying any humanity she might possess and her accusing him of turning his back on his own heritage. "No, this is good I think." She answered uncertainly, but for sure knew the signal that this meeting was over.
In many ways she was glad for it too, it was uncomfortable for them both to have to sit face to face like this.

"Then it was good seeing you Catherine. Stay safe. And tell the boy to stay safe too." Izaak didn't have any contact with Brandon and as far as he was concerned that was the best choice all told. The boy was unnatural, more so than most of the unseen, and did unnatural things. Had it not been for the social implication had it been found out, he would have left Brandon entirely to Lex to finish raising.
Given the times though, he did have some concern for both. It wasn't safe to be unseen right now, and the boy had always been terrible at hiding it as far as he was concerned.

"Yeah... you too." Catherine half mumbled as she exited the office. There was so much to do still to ensure that this operation finished without too much drama. However, it would be relieving to see the man be fittingly punished for his crimes.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Thankfully, things had gone off without too much of a hitch. The man was now in custody, without bail and awaiting whatever fate the Council's trial decided he was to have. However, that wasn't to say that there wasn't a mundane aspect to the whole thing, as the individual in question had a rap sheet as long as most people's arms. Izaak's client may not have initially been truthful with him, and only further complicated matters. Either way, the news was having a field day with the fact that the White Rock Murderer had been caught, and all the local stations were broadcasting live from the Dallas County court house steps where a joint press conference was taking place between the Dallas Police and MCU.
"And coming up in just a few moments, we're expecting a police news conference on that deadly murder spree in the White Rock neighborhoods here in Dallas." The news anchor on TV said boredly. As the feed switched, the typical background noises were heard of traffic and wind outside, which soon died down as the audio levels were adjusted.
"At roughly 11 o'clock this morning, Dallas Police were able to apprehended a person suspected to be linked to the recent White Rock Murders. As you all well know, these murders were committed late last year and until now we had been unable to identify any suspects. However, acting on a tip that had been given to one of our partner law enforcement agencies we were able to make an arrest." The officer spoke, who appeared to be rather high ranking and dressed in what appeared to be a formal police uniform instead of the normal button down and slacks many of the area detectives favored. Not far off stood a tall woman with pale blonde colored hair and glasses in a navy suit with a white shirt. "At this time, since this is a joint operation, I can take a few questions from everyone." The man added as he fielded questions from the press.
Most of these questions were fairly straight forward and normal, except for one. "Do you have any understanding of the motives that possibly fueled these murders?" A female reporter asked the officer from the small crowd below the steps. "Uh.. I'll let Warden Dumitrescu answer that for you. She's on loan to us from the Mythical or Mystical Crimes Unit branch here in Dallas." He commented as he stepped aside to allow the woman in the navy suit up to the microphone to speak.
"To answer your question... we believe that Mr. Cuevas had motives based on what we were able to find on his social media feeds. Many of these statements were both racially and sexually charged against the women whom he killed. Many of them were practitioners of the arcane, and it seems that Mr. Cuevas believed it was his duty to rid the area of them." Catherine disclosed. "Currently, Mr. Cuevas has been booked in for questioning and there is nothing further information wise I am able to provide."
The press conference went on for some time, with Catherine and the other officer trading off on questions depending on their nature. But, it was very clear that what she had told Izaak was just to avoid any additional confrontation.
