Catherine offered Izaak a grateful smile, seeing that he had started to remember that certain words just weren't worth arguing over. "Well, we'll see. This is only just the first weeks." She replied as she tucked her hair behind her ear and reached for her glass of ice water. Was she so wrong for thinking that they could possibly begin again? That whatever god had seen it fit to curse or bless her life, had seen it fit to give her a second chance at everything? Catherine could only begin to hope.
"Eh? Who?" Xiaolian asked as she exited from a sandwich shop and handed Molly her drink and food. This time it had been Xiaolian to loose one of their lunch time bets, and friendly as they were, they were also viciously unforgiving about who paid what penalty. "Oh..her.. the new warden." The tiny woman said with exasperation, having little interest in whatever Molly was spying on. How she had even begun to get saddled with the tall woman, she didn't even know. One moment she was minding her own, doing the best with the cards she was dealt with, and the next Council had decided to move her to Dallas's branch.
"I dunno Mr. Hammerstein.. maybe because they're both adults?" Xiaolian shrugged before taking a sip of her soda. The woman really didn't even know what all the fuss was about, and would have really liked to enjoy her food without a side of Molly and Brandon gossiping about someone she'd only met in the briefest of moments.

"You'll do great. You've always been a hard worker after all." It was one thing they had in common. They were dedicated to their work. That dedication was one of the reasons they hadn't really worked out, unfortunately. There was only so much time one had after all. Still, this was going well. Better than he had expected it too for sure. Hopefully, she felt the same. He didn't know, not for sure. How could he? They had been apart for so long.
"Her name is Catherine Dumitrescu." Molly said more curious than not. "I remember her, kind of, from before I worked at MCU. Or at least, I heard of her, from time to time." Molly shrugged, not really thinking about her hunting days. She was done with that for now. "Besides, aren't you curious? She's our new boss." Molly was definitely curious. Then again Molly was always curious, much to Boyuan's annoyance. They'd gel eventually, Molly was sure. For now, she was still curious as to what the other did to get sent to Dallas. Molly knew what she did. Apparently breaking wards was frowned upon, and it was this, and work for MCU, or more trouble. Seriously, she had just been practicing. It wasn't her fault that their wards had been so weak.
Maybe she should have chosen a different house.
"She's my aunt. And that's my uncle. They used to be married, but they divorced. Why are they even on a date. They're divorced!" He was clearly not happy about this at all.

"Oh snap..." Xiaolian said with a low whistle of surprise. That was not at all what she'd been expecting, and she wasn't sure how to react. "And now that you mention it, I am curious.. kinda." The woman added, having heard her own rumors through the grapevine about their new boss. Normally lunchtime for Xiaolian and Molly was spent trading stories and gossiping over the most absurd rumor they'd heard that week; but with their bosses nephew in tow, that wasn't going to happen. "Hmm... looks like internal profiles list her as a class 5 psionic with a specialization in telepathy." Xiaolian remarked scrolling through something on her phone while listening to Brandon whine. Now that she thought about it, a little bit of gossiping couldn't hurt, could it?
"You're not much of a slouch yourself Izaak, successful career, two wonderful daughters, and now up for county DA. I'm surprised you're still single." Catherine said complimenting the other. She had fully expected him to have been remarried or at least in a long term relationship by now.

"Class five? Oh snap, that's serious business." And it wasn't something she knew before hand. "Hey uh, maybe we shouldn't be here. What if she hears us?" They could gossip elsewhere. It was more Brandon had come to get her and she had grabbed her partner because if the man was going to get her in trouble, she wasn't about to be the only one. This is what happened when you befriended the local necromancer. You got to find out the juicy details, and put your relationship with your boss on the line.
"She doesn't actively listen very often. It's super rude too." He said simply and watched, not pleased. Seriously, what was she thinking. Uncle Izaak was no good. He was always no good. The man sighed heavily. This was ridiculous, but he couldn't look away, not really. What was his aunt thinking, going to lunch with his uncle. Last he checked, they didn't get along at all.
Izaak smiled at the compliment. "Yes, well, the girls are grown now. I really don't have time for dating. My work keeps me working long hours." He shrugged it off and then smiled to the waiter, ordering the grilled salmon. He did like it after all. "I'm sure you understand."

"The special please." She said to the waiter after turning her attention back to the menu. The only way anyone ever got ahead in either of their chosen career paths was long hours, and sacrificing a personal life. 'But somehow those long hours only kept you away from me... from us.' Catherine thought to herself bitterly. As usual he was full of platitudes and excuses for his previous behavior while being apologetic as ever. "Unfortunately, I'm not stranger to long and strange hours." Catherine confirmed. Council kept her busy enough, and if the last week had been any indication, she was going to have her hands full in Dallas.
"Very often?" Xiaolian asked slightly confused by Brandon's terminology. "Most telepaths don't actively listen last I checked." She added, thinking of her own experience with the ability. For some it was something that was easy to use, and others had to work a bit more at it.

He had no doubt that she was no stranger to the long hours. Neither was. "Hopefully, they won't overwork you. I know funding for most police organizations can be tight." though he was given to understand that the pay was better for members of the unseen. They seemed to at least have that part down. There weren't enough of them, but they were well paid. Most of the unseen was. Sometimes, he wondered how that had come to be. Other times, he really didn't want to know.
Brandon shrugged at the comment. "She's a Class 5. Sometimes, if people are thinking really loud, she can't help but to hear. So think quietly." He instructed. Molly gave him a deeply unimpressed look. Brandon grinned at her. "Especially you. I bet your voice is loud in your head."

"That has yet to be seen, but more than likely that's what will happen." Catherine admitted. The pay was good, but the hours were terrible. At least this way she'd have enough funding on hand to no longer rely on the small apartment Alexander kept in Dallas. Catherine was grateful for the assistance, but would have much preferred to be independent of anyone else for a time. "Funding is as tight as it ever was, and I've been asked to do more with even less." She added frowning as she took a sip of her water. There was this nagging feeling at the back of her mind, like she was forgetting someone or something. Dismissing it, she tried to turn her attention to the food being set down in front of them.
"Molly, quiet?" Xiaolian chuckled. She had never known the other to do anything quietly. "I'd bet you lunch for the next week or two, but I know that's unfair."

"That's a familiar story. It's like that at the DA office too. Every year we're expected to do more with less money and it seems like less people." The population was only going up after all, and he knew all too well what that meant. Some cases, many cases, he barely got a chance to actually look at before entering the court with the client. It was madness. Still, it was important work and he was glad to be able to do it. "At least you have a smaller segment of the population to deal with."
"I can be quiet." Molly glared at both of them. "I'm not being loud now, am I?" She could definitely be quiet. "And I wouldn't take you up on that bet anyway." She took her sandwich from Xiaolian and began to nibble on it.
Brandon snorted. "Are we sure you're the older one here? Because that was the response of a middle school girl Molly." He had no clue how close to the truth that he was.

"Didn't I just say that I thought it wouldn't be a fair fight?" Xiaolian asked rolling her eyes as she set her drink on the hood of her car before unwrapping her sandwich. "Besides which, you have terrible taste in places to eat." She stated bluntly before taking a bite. If Molly wanted to be catty, then she could too. "Anyway, why the hell did you drag me along if all you were going to do was snoop on our boss with help from their nephew?" She asked grumpily. Sometimes she swore she was still nothing but an over qualified baby sitter.
"Sadly, my population is only expected to grow after the most recent decision. We're likely to have more incidents like the one last year, and we don't yet have the staffing requirements to cover it." Catherine disagreed. The White Rock murders she felt was only just the start of something worse, and she didn't even begin to know how or if she would cope with it.
But there it was again, that nagging sensation at the back of her mind. Maybe it was just fatigue from the week, but she could almost swear that something or someone was throwing itself up against her mental shields. Dismissing it again, this time a bit more firmly, Catherine considered the potential alliance between the county DA's office and her own. It could prove invaluable, if only to identify cases that could possibly be linked to their own. Though, charges in both courts would be difficult.

"Team bonding." Molly said and then sighed. "Also, my taste in food is wonderful." Still the other was right. Just sitting here staring was getting boring. Molly only had so much attention span, and spying on her new boss was only so interesting when she couldn't hear anything. She sat back, and took a few bites of her sandwich. "I'm done here if you are Brandon. I'm not getting caught at this." That would wreck a new relationship like nothing else.
Brandon grumbled. "Fine. But I'm warning my uncle away from here after he gets off work. He better stay away from her." One of the nearby flowers withered and Molly elbowed him, feeling slightly nauseous. Brandon reigned it in.
Izaak sighed. "I suppose more people would become aware they had the potential for...for the unseen." His voice dropped to a whisper on the last three words. He was still uncomfortable with it all. He grew up surrounded by it. He shouldn't be, but he was. At least with the unseen out in the open, some of the weirder cases he knew of might actually be solved. He wasn't really aware of MCU investigative tools, but hopefully they worked and worked well. He had no doubt the other would need them.

"If you call bland and unappealing wonderful." Xiaolian snarked before tossing the wrapper from her sandwhich into a nearby garbage can. "I think that makes two of us, because I'm not getting my ass busted back to kingdom come for your curiosity." The other woman added as she pulled out a set of keys and unlocked a nearby car. "And what you say to your aunt Hammerstein, neither of us know how you figured it out either."
Xiaolian did not want to be caught up in what she suspected was going to be one hell of a lot of trouble later. Keeping her head down and doing her work generally absolved her from any issues, until she'd gotten herself saddled with Bronson as a partner.
Catherine just gave Izaak a nonchalant shrug, "I can't say if that's true or not."
