"It's supposed to enhance magic," said Jaesoo, her voice dull and muted. "That's all." Of course, that wasn't all, but the way Temperance had described it, Jaesoo couldn't possibly begin to reproduce. Temperance knew things that the others didn't. Temperance took risks, like what she'd done with the others. And Jaesoo had been foolish enough to think... well. That had to be in the past now. It couldn't be possible. Not now that Meir and Harriette were dead. "You put it in your drink, and you swallow it. Just like normal drugs." Mundane drugs. Or, some of them at least. There were the ones you injected or snorted too, but it wasn't like that. Jaesoo should know. She'd seen her roommate go through one of just about everything last year.

"A magic enhancer? You know those are dangerous, and only supposed to be taken with the supervision of a medical professional?" They were taken something fae meant to enhance magic without anyone with a medical background there to monitor things. College students were idiots sometimes, and especially this time. Two dead and four missing because of an off the street magic enhancer. Maria sighed. "Are you sure you won't give me the name of the person who provided them?"
This was a mess. It wasn't illegal, but it was dangerous and the question was how to handle this? The main problem was that it wasn't actually illegal. She'd have to catch whoever the dealer was in doing something illegal. Which meant she needed more information, and needed to take a closer look at the party. If there was any evidence this had been given to mundanes at all, she'd have a better lever to press Jaesoo with. That was what she ultimately needed. A better lever to press her one witness with, or a lot more witnesses that had something substantial.

"I'm not talking to any doctors about my ... " Jaesoo sputtered as she talked, her tone defensive now. "Why would I tell them?!" She bunched up the sheets around her neck, pulling them partially over her face as she rolled back on her side, the movement suddenly pulling the IV line in an uncomfortable direction. "Look... I don't want to say where it came from. I don't want her to get in trouble." Jaesoo knew just enough about the police to know that talking could be dangerous. Even if it was the MCU, and even if what was going on wasn't technically illegal, or supposed to be illegal. She'd heard stories from some of her cousins, and the second cousins who still lived in Seoul.

"I honestly have no idea. My own magic is pretty weak, but I never considered magic enhancers. What would you even say?" It was beyond her. "And alright. One of our doctors will be here shortly to make sure you're in the clear. I'll be in contact if I need anything else Ms. Kim." If she could find another lever to get the name out of her, for instance, though it wouldn't be needed if she could track down someone in particular. Luckily, that generation posted everything, so she was sure there were photos from the party. She had already set a junior officer on tracking down as many featuring Jaesoo as possible. It was going to be interesting.

"Okay. Sure." Jaesoo stayed facing away from Maria until finally she was sure the MCU detective had left. She picked up her phone and tried desperately to at least mark all oustanding messages as read. Her mom would be arriving soon and...
The pictures from the party had been posted from Björn's Instagram account. This wouldn't have been a problem, except that he was mundane and shouldn't have ever been invited to the party anyway. The pictures showed the party in an eerie slow lapse timeline beginning with the students arriving in the front. It was BYOB, as always. The pictures showed table dancing, solo cups arranged for beer pong, washed out karaoke - normal college party material. They showed Temperance bringing something from a brown paper bag, and the two of them sitting in the middle of the room, poised to take another drink. And then the pictures stopped.

What little the green could see in this building was through the windows. Little birds flitting to and from the windowsill periodically in awareness of her passing interest. When a literal little bird whispered that the human Jaesoo was alone Rhanis stood up and brushed the small bookcase with her hand. A light smoothing of her hand and a word of forgetting in Fae her influence upon the magazines passed as their spines returned to the text they once bore. The last thing she needed was some human reading from her library and getting more bad ideas than the one she dealt with already. Mask held in one hand the personnel seemed less concerned with looking at her and it didn't seem a risk.
The accented voice of one that had gone before came from the door again as Rhanis returned to check that the officer had gone, "Can I come in now? We must talk."

Jaesoo heard that voice again. The one that had immediately preceded Maria's intrusion into her hospital room. She lifted her head, turning slightly toward the door, then sighed dramatically, closing her eyes again. "Go away... leave me alone. I already talked to the detective. I don't want to talk to you either." The face had looked familiar, like one of the girls who had been there the night before, surrounding her and Temperance, in the circle... But something had been off. Something beneath the face did not match. The timbre of the voice was not the same. The movements, from what she could make out while facing away... Realization struck. "Why are you impersonating one of my friends? Who are you? Actually, wait. No. Just stop. Stop impersonating my friend. And go away."

While Rhanis still couldn't enter she certainly didn't need to leave the public space either. Though the health care workers running to and fro bore a careful side-eye to ensure they were not directly in earshot. A voice at ease rolled its pervasive calm and careful evasion, "I can not wrong anyone by impersonation that is not. Unknown faces accumulate that I could not save but others perhaps I still can. I am here to help as I suspect you ate poisoned bait cooked by fools, little deer. One not meant for you and given by an ignorant."
A huff of distaste for deals with humans but if she did not want treatment took pity on this one she sensed was at least not mundane, "We have both been wronged, myself still, so tell me who made the poison and I will instead honor your ask."

"What?" Jaesoo looked closely at Rhanis, not entirely sure what she was looking at. "Who are you? No. What are you? What do you want from me?" Anxiety and uncertainty seeped into her voice as she took in sight of the poor facsimile of Kiera - at least that's what she thought the girl's name. Not many could manage an impersonation like that though - and definitely not anyone or anything mundane. So, magic, ancient powers, or something otherworldly. Jaesoo felt something tighten in her stomach. How did this - thing - whatever it was - know to find her? Her eyes narrowed slightly. "What's your real name?"

Rhanis huffed and squinted at Jaesoo while remaining at the door, "Some think it rude to ask for names. I am held to standards more in your favor but you still haven't bargained well enough for that. I am from the green, where this face ended. Where other faces end before and I well expect after. None of them rightfully caused by me or the green."
A cross of her arms focused as she dropped any pretense that the hallway was quiet, "Your manfool creation must be ended before I am put to the torch. So I bargain for information, your treatment, or both if I must. Name your price and I will consider it. I suggest letting me inside if you wish to bargain, for both our benefit."

"What?" What in the hell was this creature blabbering on about? Bargain for what? And what was this green that she kept talking about? Jaesoo gripped her fingers tighter around the sheet, pulling it closer to her chin as she watched Rhanis, wary and uncertain. "OK. Fine. You can come in. ... not like I could have really stopped you anyway." She looked at her phone again, ignoring the notifications for new messages that kept populating across the screen, and started mindlessly scrolling through instagram again. At least there was always something new to see...

Rhanis walked in while raising an eyebrow as the plastic plants on the windowsill sprouted roots as their leaves and flowers turned toward her, "Of course you could keep me out. I could not come in without your permission. Do they not teach you anything now?"
The white of the false human eyes flushed a ruddy amber as a cold eye checked for any lingering shredded mutations of her binding that she could more immediately absolve Jaesoo of, "Bargain for my services or my protection from your enemies should it be within my power. I ask for whatever is known about the bodies being rudely dropped at my door with their souls burnt out, whenever you know of it. These are this week. You cannot keep them."
Rhanis picked a bundle of dirty cell phones from her pocket then dropped them onto Jaesoo's bed. One from a different pocket placed separately, Kiera's, opened to her text messages. The power was low, and like all the phones quite filthy with earth, but Kiara's phone dutifully made a noise whenever it got a new message.

Jaesoo gasped, and brought her hand to her mouth, eyes widening at the sight of the dirt-encrusted phones. "What ... ? What the hell?" She looked between the phones and Rhanis, then back at the messages on Kiera's phone screen. One after another - are you okay, where are you, hello?, text me when you can, I'm worried about you please tell me you're okay, I'm calling the police. Hundreds of messages like these scrolled as if on loop on the phone. Jaesoo suppressed an involuntary shudder at the disturbing familiarity. Her phone had looked much the same when she'd first regained consciousness in the hospital. "Hey, wait a minute..." She saw something sprout, and glanced quickly at the window - startling at the formerly plastic plants now seeming to grow, as if alive. Maybe they were alive now. "What are ... what are you?"
Her parents, unfortunately, had never quite warned her about the fae. Not in so many words, anyway.

Unable to lie directly she evades in a moment's ponder, "I am a doctor, I think the word is, to certain forces of nature. The Green follows me wherever I go and it abhors those cloth voids of living things. Others will be unhappy for my person and energies being misused by this amusement that's been devised but not with you."
The amber-backed eyes didn't break their gaze as such a focused creature she was, "We both need to know what has been done to you. I am the aggrieved wanting undue death to stop. You clearly have natural means to survive concoctions of mine. Name a price I can fulfill in knowledge or action for my ask and you might have it."

"You're not a doctor," said Jaesoo, shaking her head. "You don't work here. And you have ... you have dead people's phones. I don't know you. You won't tell me your name. I don't know where you come from..." She hiccuped, feeling slightly hysterical amid a growing sense of unease, as she stared wide-eyed at this creature in front of her. "Don't tell me that you created the original concoction in vivify. This was yours? You're responsible for this?" Something in her voice broke. "Who are you?"
