"Yes, a block." He said simply. Sarah arrived with a small metal pan on three legs and some leaves. He set this up on the counter and pulled out flint and a bit of metal from the cabinet above the sink. "I prefer smoke divination. I hope it doesn't bother you." He was going to do it regardless. It was something he was good at after all. The man lit the leaves on fire and they caught and burned slower than was natural, the smoke building up above it, instead of flowing through out the room.
He thought of his question and a scene began to form. A series of plants slowly showed themselves, followed by a stone and he hummed as he saw them mixed together.
"A potion then, consisting of sage, spearmint, horseradish, salt, and powdered rose quartz. Doable, but though powdering a stone is an arduous process." He informed her. "I'm not sure of the cost just yet. But I can't imagine it would be more than $200 for everything. I have everything on hand except for the powered rose quartz."

Xiaolian had been about to make a comment about how smoke divination wasn't exactly the most effective or efficient way, but then thought better of it. Most Ratatoskr didn't practice divination or rather specialize in it. Coughing and waving the smoke away from her face, she found herself getting increasingly annoyed by this healer. If she had anything to say about it, it was that his bedside manner was atrocious.
At the mention of a potion however, Xiaolian made a face. What was she supposed to do with that?
"I see." She commented, waving yet still more smoke from her face. This was a becoming a waste of time, and she still had to pay Zander for everything. Xiaolian was beginning to understand why the other Guardians did so very little with the Ratatoskr. "Is that in your money or mine?" Xiaolian interrupted before the man who called himself doctor had a chance to say anything else.

"In mine." He said simply. "I'm assuming you will have to convert, of course. Most Ratatoskr do." He was rather used to it of course. "Will you be accepting the treatment?" That was the question wasn't it?
Was she willing to accept treatment for a block that should never have been there in the first place? She could always try on her own of course, and he wouldn't blame her for it. It was possible to divine a way for her to fix the block herself as well, now that she knew it was there. But he had done his job and done it well as far as he was concerned.

It was an easy assumption to make too, given that this was Ratatoskr they were talking about and not Guardians. Xiaolian did a quick mental calculation, and soon realized that this man and the fae were getting the better end of the deal. This visit alone would cost her dearly for some time to come.
Converting currencies always ended up that way, it had been like that when she had come back from China. What she had thought was a good salary there, didn't even begin to cover things state side.
For a time she had shared a small, cramped apartment with others, saving her money carefully and often going without. Zhen hadn't been terribly eager to help either, instead siding with her parents who hadn't exactly approved of her choice of career.
Specialists made good money, but that didn't mean they were rich by any stretch.
Filled with anxiety, Xiaolian knew that the decision would mean the difference between putting what was wrong right or leaving it as it was. "This visit has already cost me dearly... is there another way?"

"I suppose you could make the potion on your own time." He offered. "I can write down the prescription for you. Alternatively, with enough practice, you may be able to regain some functionality, though I don't know how much. You could also apply to the guild to have them cover the costs of the potion." They would do things like that on occasion. Being a Ratatoskr only paid if you took on a student, and even then, didn't pay much. There were too many forms of currency to be concerned with.

Practice wasn't the issue, the issue was there was some sort of block preventing her from even practicing in the first place.
"I am not someone who should be taking on a student, the guild suggestion is still appreciated however." Xiaolian replied cautiously. Taking on a student wasn't something she had ever considered, if only because she wouldn't have the first clue how to manage it.
Upon mention of just giving her the recipe, she felt some relief. Depending on what it was, she could probably manage it on her own, if not others could possibly be persuaded. "That would actually be best I think... given my current circumstances."

"Of course." He scratched it down on a sheet of paper in fae and handed it over. "There's not much more I can do for you now. Please see Sarah to pay for the cost of your visit." He opened the door and motioned for her to exit. "If the potion doesn't work, feel free to come back, and we'll see if we can find another way."
Though he doubted he'd be seeing her again. She seemed almost skittish. At least she had the answer to wait ailed her now.
