Oh he was furious. "I will need every second of that month." His voice was cold. "So if you will excuse me, I need to get back to work." He turned his attention back to the computer by him and opened his email, and began typing. He'd need to figure out how to spin this, how to make certain his assistant director was able to shoulder this burden with what would apparently be minimal oversight. He set up a meeting between the two of them in an hour, superseding other meetings and shifting around his schedule.
A quick email to his secretary meant she'd handle shuffling his schedule around at least. That was one of the many reasons he paid her well after all.
"I am sure I will speak with you again after I am done at work for the day."

Catherine simply shrugged before leaving, more than used to the anger and outrage that often accompanied asking someone to do the impossible. She more than doubted that he would speak to her later, and would be greatly surprised if he did.
More practice wasn't the solution to what ailed him, it wasn't the inability to handle what he'd been given, it was the inability to see what he'd been given.
His sire was perhaps one of the most well connected individuals within the unseen world, be it for good or for bad, and was practically begging him to let her help with the adjustment. Instead all she got for her trouble was anger, insolence, and pain. It seemed like it would have to be sink or swim for the fledgling, and instating him briefly as a Specialist would do just that.
He would be given a chance to see how the rest of the unseen functioned, not just the court or the institute either. If she could have her way, she'd have him rooming with one of the others or staying in a crash space just so she didn't have to deal with his nonsense.

He didn't know what she had planned, but it had been a long day at the office as he got his assistant director ready to step into his seat much sooner than anticipated. A month was not near enough time to go to minimal oversight, but it would have to work out. Assuming he couldn't talk her out of this entire ordeal. She didn't have the authority to banish him either, despite her authority in the court. Not given his rank as well. Grigore would have to agree to it.
He didn't see that happening, even if Grigore didn't seem to like him. Then again,t he only one that he seemed to like was Catherine.
Tracking her down was simple enough. He had needed to find her in the family quarters area of the court, but that had been simple enough.
"Catarina?" He was exhausted, and it showed. It was late, he still hadn't had a chance to go feed for the day, but this was important. He'd go find a meal later. Worse came to worse, he knew where a homeless camp was and that was a ready meal, if not the cleanest.

Catherine had just finished her own day, and was going back over things with the court. Grigore had been more than eager to hand the management of his new court over to his eldest daughter, retaining little more than final say and figurehead status for now. She hated every single moment of it however, despite having technically been raised to assume a similar if not same position with the Seelie Court. This required her to burn the candle at both ends, even more so than she had previously. "Yes?" She answered, altogether unamused at this intrusion. Her day had been long, with Molly and Xiaolian still refusing to work with one another and their newest team member hospitalized for who knew how long.
The Council had promised that they would get another Warden in, but she could see that like everyone else they were dragging their feet. As far as she was concerned she was too close personally to their current investigation, and while she could petiton to be put off of it, she still had other things to do.
After speaking with him, Catherine had assumed that Tyrus would stew for a few days, have a temper tantrum, and stew some more. What she hadn't expected though, was for him to come right back to the issue later the same day. But here he was getting ready to whine about something again, and she didn't have the energy after a 12 hour shift to deal with it.

She looked just as exhausted as he was. And definitely not like she wanted to speak to him. Lovely, this was going to go just as poorly as early today had gone wasn't it? Worse, there was no arguing with her on this. He was her fledgling here, no matter how much he would contest it. She had all the power in this relationship and it stung. At least she didn't come at him with a whip. It could be significantly worse then having her as a sire, even if they did constantly butt heads.
"Have you decided what my punishment is to be?" And he couldn't view it as anything but a punishment. He was being taken from his life for the grand sin of having a private life. For trying to find out what was going on on his own first. And he had centuries of this to look forward to.

Catherine remained silent as she finished reading a document. "It's not a punishment Tyrus." She said as she made a quick note and looked up at him over her glasses. She was still dressed from work, but her badge and gun were safely tucked away somewhere. However, Fantasy novels always got it wrong, being a vampire didn't mean everything was magically fixed to perfect. It just meant that whatever a person had when they were human or even remotely human could have the potential to come with. Not much had changed since the event that had turned them both in one night, Catherine still worked as a Warden, wasn't much of a dresser except for the court, and still needed glasses for some tasks.
"But if you insist on looking at it as one, then that is your problem and not mine." She pointed out gesturing towards him with the pen in her hand. As far as she was concerned this wasn't a punishment, but community service in a way. He needed to see more of the world than just the ranch, court, or institute.
"I spoke with Klein earlier this evening, he's more than happy to expedite the paperwork. I need another Specialist and our pool of candidates is vastly underwelming. He's more than happy to have you work with the Dallas office. You'll be on your own or with Bronson, or if you prefer I can have you work with Boyuan. This is just until I can get Zhang back from medical leave."

He was being taken away from his work and from his life. This was the very definition of a punishment regardless of her opinion on it. At least it was temporary, until Zhang healed by the sound of it. Assuming she felt that he had served his time. "I was under the impression that one had to serve as an officer before being a specialist." There were exceptions of course, but they largely were about being a contractor, not a specialist.
And of course Klein had been more than happy to expedite the paperwork, the rank bastard. Clearly Tyrus had not given him near enough hell as a child. It was too bad he could no longer get away with some of the things he had done to the other man. "I would prefer to work with Boyuan, if that is okay." Bronson would drive him insane and there was no way he had a handle on their paperwork.

"Education can occasionally be substituted for experience." Catherine remarked plainly. "Given that you have what amounts to a phD in metaphysical studies in the mundane sense, I don't think anyone is going to complain too loudly about this." She added as she made another note on what she was reading. The previous court had been well organized, but the transition had been rough. There had still been some who had sworn allegiences but then did everything possible to hamper the new ruler. Months later they were still weeding out these seeds of dissent.
"If you wish to work with the Lieutenant, then I will let her know." More than likely Xiaolian would be harder on him just from her rigidity than Bronson's disorganization. "I'm sure she'll be happy to work with you." Xiaolian was generally happy to work with anyone who wasn't Molly, who they all agreed was incredibly immature for the position. But the other had passed all the exams and done the required time as and officer. They couldn't disqualify her based on experience, and age was a touchy subject. Catherine considered Molly lucky that the fae queen hadn't objected to one of her subjects breaking so many laws for so long.
"This is temporary Tyrus, you need to learn that there's more to life than being a hermit. Most days you won't even see me and you'll be on your own."

He was hardly a hermit. He worked long hours, volunteered three times a week and was regularly at his preferred local magic shop, not including the work he did for the court. But she didn't want to hear that and he was learning better. She wasn't happy to hear his reasons or anything that went against what she believed. "Of course. I'll do my best." It was only until Zhang healed. Then he could get back to his own life and avoiding his sire as much as was prudent.
Luckily, she worked the same long hours he did. It was astonishingly easy to avoid her. That was, perhaps, one of the problems with their arrangement. "If you'll excuse me, I still need to go for a hunt." There was still time for a clean meal, if she didn't want him to stick around a bit longer. He hated when things went long and he was forced to rely on homeless camps. He preferred his meal bathed.
And preferably not soaked in perfumes either, though it was usually even odds on that. His nose was more sensitive since his change and what didn't bother him before did now.

"Trade the insitute for MCU for a time, that's all I'm asking from you." Catherine clarified as she dismissed him. Never had she asked him to give up any other aspect of things, just to come up for some air from the institute and perhaps gain a different perspective. She was trying to look out for whatever his best interests might have been, but it seemed that he wanted very little to do with anything else.
Sighing and looking at the time on her watch, she shook her head. It was going to be a long night.

It had been a month which meant it was his first day with MCU. It was sure to be interesting and he had needed to assure his assistant director that it was only for a short period of time and that he'd be able to be reached, though he may not be able to make any decisions until the evening. The fact that he was basically having to work two jobs on top of his usual life didn't escape him. He was going to be under a good deal of stress until Maria was able to return.
More than his usual level even.
At least the surroundings were familiar. It would have been a larger headache to be positioned elsewhere. And at least he had installed the mirror on his property. It meant he could head home or head to Broadmoore as needed. Not everything was something he could do remotely after all.

Catherine hadn't been joking when she said Xiaolian would be ecstatic to work with someone who wasn't Molly for a change, she just hoped that the enthusiasm wasn't misinterpreted. Occasionally the lieutenant could come off as a bit much, and this often led to squabbles like the one Catherine was currently witnessing from the relative safety of her office door. For now it was just words, and hopefully whatever the problem was would be resolved soon.
"Disaster exits your mouth!" Xiaolian chided the other in what sounded like Chinese, but it wasn't a sure bet. If this was going to be her next six weeks, then Catherine was more than grateful to have Tyrus to separate the two. She still hadn't gotten to the bottom of why exactly the two had been on the outs for the last few months. Was it because she had assigned Maria to Xiaolian? Or because something had happened to cause a gulf between the two partners, who while previously had argued and jabbed at one another playfully, now appeared to nearly be at war.
'Oh for fucks sake...' Catherine thought to herself as she debated wading in and putting an end to whatever was going on.

Tyrus stepped into the briefing room as Xiaolian shouted something at a furious looking Molly. Molly glared darkly at Xiaolian and Tyrus didn't even want to know what was going on between the two of them.
"Warden?" He gave a polite smile. "Bronson, Boyuan. It's good to see you again." Or at least that was the polite thing to say and he had nothing against either of them, even if he wasn't looking forward to this. "Have I interrupted something?" It certainly looked like it. The two looked a lot more antagonistic than he remembered them being. Was this going to be what he'd have to put up with for the next several weeks?
Molly wrinkled her nose and sent Xiaolian a nasty look before turning so she was no longer facing the other woman. "Nothing much. Just another disagreement." One of many.

"No, have a seat doctor and we'll get started soon." Catherine said shaking her head and pointing towards an empty seat at the table. These squabbles had become a daily routine that made her seriously question if she could even continue to hold the team together. Maria was new and had been injured the first week, Molly was still young and niave, and Xiaolian appeared to be dealing with some different things altogether.
It was headache inducing and anxiety provoking to have to wonder what next besides words would be thrown around her conference room and between her officers.
"As an aside... Bronson, Boyuan. My office after this. Separately." She added curtly, emphasizing the urgency and her own irritation. It wouldn't give her much time to sort things out but it was better than nothing.
"In light of Specialist Zhang's injury, I've managed to convince Dr. Rahal to join us for the interum. He's on loan from the institute, and I expect you to treat him with respect." Was she really having to have this lecture with her team? Molly perhaps, but Xiaolian, R&D, and Forensics she shouldn't have had to. "Dr. Rahal is a well known specialist on some of the more complex metaphysics and magics that our team has encountered, and has worked with us in the past as some of you well know." At least she was giving him credit where it was due.
Catherine knew that this request stung Tyrus's pride, but she couldn't come up with any other solution.

Managed to convince was one way of putting it, but at least they were both on the same page on keeping quiet about the true reason behind this farce. He took the indicated seat. "I'll do my best to help out." He wasn't going to gum this up at least. It wasn't what he wanted to do, but he wasn't going to risk more of this punishment going on. He'd be on his best, most cooperative behavior.
"Yes ma'am." Molly crossed her arms, not thrilled that she was going to have to be lectured. She really wished she could be transferred. But Dallas was for screwups and she was sure as hell a screwup by MCU standards. It was easier just being a Ratatoskr. Things made sense there at least.
