"The only person I know would be my friend from work and she's too busy for any relationship." Catherine was way too busy to try and have a relationship. Her position didn't exactly allow her to have a lot of free time given she was always on call. "I meet a lot of people, but not well enough to try and set them up." It was a lonely position to have but he had it. It didn't make him happy either, but it needed done. Who else was he supposed to trust?
He didn't know. He should have made more friends when he had the chance. Now there was no chance. It was enough to make him want to drink again. But there was a reason he no longer drank. He'd get past the loneliness eventually.

"That's too bad, and besides I don't think my Dad would exactly forgive me for setting him up with someone." Mary had considered urging Tyrus to give her his friend's name, but then thought better of it. Her father's love life was really something that she didn't need to be meddling in, regardless of how much his current girl friend irked her. The woman was practically her age if not younger, and it was no secret that it made her uncomfortable.

"Trust me, Catherine would never forgive me for it. I'm pretty certain I'm still in hot water for the last stunt I pulled on her." It had worked out in the end, but a little more communication was needed, apparently. And asking permission. He didn't get to throw his weight around like he had done so, even if it was for a friend. She'd kill him if he tried again and given their now unique bond he really didn't want to try anything. He was well aware he lived on thin ice with his sire and that she still wasn't all that amused with the fact that his mess had gotten them both turned into vampires.
He had a feeling she really would have killed him if his parents were still in charge. That wouldn't have been fun. He never wanted to go all out against Catherine. He honestly wasn't sure who would win. He wasn't putting money on him either, given she had a lot more experience.

Mary raised an eyebrow at Tyrus's remark, he couldn't be talking about the same Catherine she was thinking of could he? It was after all a common name, and in this area of the world still relatively popular among women the same age as her step-mother theoretically was, which last time Mary guessed was her late fourties to early fifties. Granted, some individuals in the unseen aged quite gracefully, often looking years younger than their actual age. Her step-mother had been one of those such people as long as she had known her, but she hadn't assumed anything from it until she was talking with a friend earlier in the week.
They had managed by chance to be at the same airport at the same time, but both traveling in different directions. It had been good to sit down, grab a coffee and catch up on the latest gossip amongst their circle of friends. When it had come up that one of the vampire courts had changed over, Mary wasn't surprised as things like that happened in the unseen. What she had been surprised at was the images circulating about of the Dragon Court's newest princess. Her features had been familiar initially, but she had been unsure where she had seen the woman, until it clicked. "...just a question here... but I'm curious so you can indulge me or not. Who does she, I mean your friend work for?"

"Oh. She's the Warden for our district." He shrugged and smiled. "We met in the line of work, when I was still contracting out to MCU. She's...pretty intimidating when she wants to be, but we made friends regardless. Not before she tore me a new one about keeping court business out of work a few times though." He did his best of course, but when a case involved a vampire, court business became work and that wasn't something he could help. At least she had to deal with that now too and could suffer through that as well. Though he did no longer deal with that at all. That he'd leave to la principessa and gladly so. Besides,t eh new court was different, but less...hm. less abusive to him at least. Though it was still no kind place to be.
Oddly enough, Grigore had modernized it. Given how old he was, Tyrus had rather expected the opposite.
"I'd offer to introduce but she's always slammed with work. I don't think she has an off button. If it isn't MCU things, it's court business."

That sounded like her down to the comments about an off button. She had always been active and busy even when she and her sister had been younger. Their father had always been asking her to slow down, take some time off for their family, and she had at one time.
Mary and Emily had been latchkey kids for most of the week after about 8th grade. The exception had been the 3 days off a week Catherine had had while she was still working as a specialist, those days had almost been sacred where she turned off her phone and spent time with them. Things became much different after she became a warden.
"I know this sounds crazy, but I think you're talking about my step-mother." Mary laughed nervously, quickly dismissing the notion. Many of the people who worked with MCU were like her step-mother, driven and ambitious in ways that often put them at odds with traditional societies.

"Your step? Catherine Dumitrescu." He gave the full name and smiled. "I thought you looked familiar. There's a picture of you and your sister on her desk." It was next to one of Brandon and those were the only signs that Catherine had a life outside of work at all. "What a crazy world we live in." He hadn't expected to ever meet one of Catherine's girls. That hadn't been a possibility that occurred to him. Mary was such a common name after all that it could have been anyone. He only knew the name because he had probed her about the picture once and she had answered, though not without giving him a look for asking personal questions at work. "I've met your cousin Brandon too." Brandon was a little shit as far at Tyrus was concerned, but he could acknowledge what hell his parents had put him through.
There was a reason the two did better not in the same place.
"Does she know you're in town?"

"Yeah.. technically she's my step-mother. Dad remarried when we were really young, so she's who we always called mom." It seemed to be a strange disconnect and didn't at all match up with the warden or anything else one knew about Catherine. "As for Brandon, I'm sorry. He's always been a bit if a little shit." Like any family, they had had their issues and after they brought Brandon to live with them it hadn't been easy on anyone involved. But as always, Catherine had done her best and tried to make sure they were taken care of. Despite what the kids thought or had been told, it wasn't their fault that she and Izaak were no longer married.
Part of the reason that the divorce had been so acrimonious was the two strong personalities conflicting.
"She doesn't... Dad and her don't get along so well... after Emily's illness."

"I don't think Brandon will ever change." The pain in the ass. Whatever, he wasn't a bad person. Just a pain in the ass. "And...yeah. I'm sorry about your loss." The illness had been hard on everyone. He knew that Catherine was still reeling from the loss, even if she didn't say anything about it. Brandon was a mess as well, and Tyrus was a little concerned just what his baby brother/sire's nephew/whatever their weird relationship was would act out. That would be very bad and they all knew it, given his necromancy. Acting out could be catastrophic.
"I think, maybe, they just are both strong people. You dad's the DA right? He'd have to be headstrong in that position. So does Catherine in hers. Not getting along kind of makes sense." Though he didn't know all the details of that relationship, he could see where it would fall apart. His parents had fought a lot too. Many an argument had been ended by pulling the status card. Mother had always been furious when Father did that too. In turn, he dealt with both their fury. Hopefully it hadn't been the same for Mary. He couldn't imagine Catherine taking her anger out on a kid though, or on anyone she loved.

"Yeah, Dad's the DA... so I don't really like to advertise it." She confirmed. Izaak had his own share of people who he had pissed off, it wasn't just Catherine.
"I don't Brandon'll change either.. you know considering the court. I just hope she can keep a lid on whatever stupid thing he decides to do." Mary hesitated. Catherine was usually the one who rode Brandon and tried to head off any bad behavior. His years without the family and being forced to do things against his will had left it's mark.
Often it was Catherine being called out of work to deal with any disciplinary issues, and while she had often been angry or disappointed, she hadn't taken that anger out on the kids. It was something that she hadn't been shown much of as a kid herself until she had been taken in by Sir William.

"Smart choice." She probably had mundanes and unseen alike gunning for her. No wonder she liked to travel. It was probably safer. He smiled at her uncertain. He knew what it was like to grow up having to be careful because of who his parents were. "So. Tell about yourself. I've been plastered over everything forever, so you probably know at least some about me. But what about you?" That was the question wasn't it. What about her? What was she like and what did she do? He was interested in finding out.
Madeline liked her and must like her for a reason, after all.
