Everything hurt. Everything felt like hell and as Tyrus opened his eyes, he realized he was drugged. Oh hell. Drugs were worse than Alcohol when it came to his magic. He lifted a hand weakly, going for the IV when a nurse reached over and stopped him, not touching him to do so. Blearily he looked at her. What was he on? Whatever it was, it was enough to keep him sedate. But he could see the too strong glimmer of nullification wards surrounding the room. What the hell?
Those looked strong enough to keep even his magic at bay. That was good. Fuzzily, he looked around. Where was his family? Balto wouldn't have left his side, the overprotective prat. He looked again and recognized the sight of one of his few non-vampire friends. Did she count as a non-vampire friend? Well, she wasn't fully a vampire, so probably. "Catherine?"
His voice was little more than a whisper. His throat was sore from a breathing tube that had been removed before he had been allowed to regain consciousness. "What happened?" Catherine was not the sentimental type. She would be there for a reason, he was sure of it.

Looking up from a small electronic tablet in her lap upon hearing her name, she looked at Tyrus with a mixture of relief and concern. "Good to see you're awake." She said setting the tablet aside next to a stack of folders and papers. It was clear she had brought work with her, not yet able to delegate some of the tasks to other officers. "We're wondering the same thing and were hoping you could tell us." Catherine added as she moved over to the bed from the small couch she'd been camped out on for the past few days.

Tyrus thought on what he last recalled. "I was working on an experiment. Trying to make a new nullification object for stronger magics." He cast his mind back and then frowned. "something happened? An explosion. I remember...vampires? An attack?" He tried to sit up, only to fall back with a hiss of pain. What the hell had a vampire been doing attacking a prince of the court. "They must have messed with the ritual circle. I know I checked it before I began casting." He forced himself to lay back, but turned his head to look to his friend. Everything hurt. What had happened to him?
"Who dared attack a prince? Are they dealt with?" He didn't throw around his title often, but in this case, it was needed. Vampires knew better than to attack him. He was a prince and the high priest. Attacking him was a fool's errand. Though apparently the fools had won this round.

"That is about the gist of it." Catherine confirmed with a nod. "Our monitoring system are tuned to pick up large magical signatures, with Mezar normally ruled out of our criteria. But this managed to ping the geological survey sensors, and thankfully someone had sense to check with us." She explained, the Arabic word sounding strange with her accent. The entire specialist team of Dallas had had to drop everything and respond; they had no other choice with their positions. "Igor and Bronson managed to get it contained, Boyuan ran interference with the local law enforcement." Catherine added trying to figure out how best to explain the knock down drag out fight that each of them had been forced into.
"Well.. that too is a bit unclear. They have been dealt with, yes." Catherine said, reaching up absently to adjust the collar of her shirt under the navy blazer. She had expended most of her own energy opening the gate, and fending off the other vampire long enough to get the upper hand. The scrapes and bruises were still healing, most of them easily hidden underneath the suits she wore to work.
Like many of her officers, she was still healing from the attacks. "I may have an idea, but confirming it is another story."

"I would tune it out too." He admitted. "It's a wise choice, given I live there. I'm just glad it pinged something and you were called." The team could handle damn near everything as far as he was concerned. He was glad they could make it in time. Eyes closed and sighed, even that hurting his throat. The wards around the room must have been Bronson's work. "Did I lose control of my magic?" It was the only reason he could think of for the wards. How badly had he been injured?
"Have my brothers been alerted?" Judging by the lack of his brother-in-law's human brother, he had his doubts. At least one member of that family would be here already, and with his brothers not here, he could only suspect it was day time. Mother would have been fussing over him already, day time or no. But she and father were gone now. "Is the team okay?" A magical accident and an attack at his house. He had so many questions. He stopped bombarding Catherine with them and let his throat rest.

"Loosing control is the understatement of the century, Tyrus." Catherine said with a sigh. "When we found you, you were unconscious in the center of the ritual circle. Meanwhile, magic saw fit to run rampant. It was stopped shortly before it reached the reagents in storage beneath one of the buildings, or so I'm told. I had my hands full with other things." She explained, still having little luck in processing what had happened out at Mezar. They had arrived in the middle of a war zone, and with little clue as to how to deal with it.
"No one died luckily, so I would assume everyone okay." Catherine answered. They had been trying to reach his family, but to no avail. She hadn't even been able to reach Brandon, which she found strange. There were other methods, but she was hesitant to use them. She had a strong suspicion that this was the work of Grigore or another vampire who had been quietly biding their time in the wings, waiting to overthrow the new Ra at the first opportunity. But it wasn't anything she could confirm yet.
"I am truly sorry Tyrus, we have tried to contact your brothers... but we have yet to receive a response."

"Yet to? Even from Milo? The landline? Veritas always picks that stupid thing up." Milo's brother in law was a pain in the ass, but he was loyal. Tyrus tried to push himself up, only to hiss as he gave up the attempt. No one died was pretty good for their team at least. But right now, he was worried about his family. "Are any of the humans that working for my brothers answering?" He closed his eyes and forced himself to calm down. "No. You would have let me know if that was the case. You would have been able to reach them."
A complete black out? Even the humans who handled the daytime operations being out of contact was unheard of. That she hadn't heard from any of them was not good. Combined with the attack on himself and the ranch and he didn't like what the math added to. There was no reason for daytime operations to cease after all. That was where they made good money and he couldn't see that happening even in a black out.

"Even from Milo and Veritas. Even Brandon." Catherine said shaking her head. Usually if all else failed, she could get a hold of someone by proxy through Brandon. It wasn't the ideal method, but it did the job when she needed it to when she needed it. "No one has answered our calls, and I've seen Xiaolian and Molly around to do a welfare check; they should be fine, especially with Xiaolian." She assured the other. At least she hoped that they would be fine, given what sort of lion's den she had just potentially sent them into.
This was no longer a conversation between an officer and victim, this had turned into a conversation between friends. "Do you know who Grigore Constantin is? I'm beginning to suspect this is his doing."

"Grigore Constantin?" He thought back and shrugged. "I haven't heard of him. If he's a vampire, he hasn't presented himself at court yet." Which meant he was either really weak and thus a nobody, or really strong and thus a danger. The mage considered what it could be. With his luck, it was the really strong portion. Balto was still working on getting himself established, so Tyrus had spent more time at the court than usual. Between the brothers, they had everything under control though. It was hard to fight against people who knew blood magic, given how rare it was.
"Seriously though. Brandon is a shut in. And he's not responded? I'm glad those two are checking on him." Maybe he was just in the shop or something, covered in clay and paint. It wouldn't be the first time he had missed a call because of that. He assumed his brothers were last on the list. Drowzy, he glanced to his IV. "They know not to get me too out of it right? I'd rather be in pain than be a danger." He was incredibly lightheaded. He didn't really want to know the full list of injuries he had.

"The staff has been aware of your predilection to chaos, and have taken suitable measures. We even managed to get Bronson to write the wards, she said something about basing them off Boyuan's something or another."
The was then that Catherine wondered just how honest she should be with Tyrus. In the span of a week, she had had a vampire hunter kick down her door, a truce with the Dragon Court, and an attack on one of MCU's best civilian consultants. "But, your involvement with the politics at current is also scant to say the least." She pointed out bluntly. "Yes, Brandon is a shut in... however I have my reasons for concern." Catherine said, being intentionally vague. Grigore hadn't just threatened utter disaster, he had made good on his promises of chaos and destruction. She just prayed to whatever god that was out there listening, that she would have enough time to rally the troops; fractured as they were.

"True enough. I'm more my brother's enforcer than anything else." The man they told fledglings about just before the sun rose. Tyrus closed his eyes. "Not that I can manage that now." It was probably a good thing Bronson had set up the wards. Tyrus also assumed he was in an unseen hospital, given how the walls glowed. Though the Secret was out now, so possibly just an open minded mundane one.
He was alive and that was more than what he had been expecting. "It's good they know though. I'd hate to turn my IV into sand, or anything like that." Weirder had happened.

Catherine frowned at Tyrus's response, the other had always been a formidable mage, but it seemed that this latest incident had really shaken him to the core. "Not right now, no. But now that you're awake, they may talk about at least releasing you by the end of the week." She said, hoping that there was some amount of self fulfilling prophecy in that statement. Catherine had no idea how she was going to handle Grigore, and maintain what tenuous grip on sanity she felt she currently possessed.
"And if I were you, I would be a tiny bit more concerned about turning your room furnishings into a zoo."

"That would be better than rubber ducks. Everywhere." He waved a hand, and hissed in pain, then pointed as the wards simply strengthened with the addition of his magic. "That was supposed to make your pencil dance. Remind me to destroy Bronson's notes on this so the council never gets them." These wards in the wrong hands could be deadly. And frankly, the council was the wrong hands. He trusted a sum total of none of them at all.
"Good news. You'll be able to find me fairly easily for a consult. I won't be able to do much more than that." And that was if he was awake. He could already feel himself dozing off.

"Council likely will hear nothing of them or even get to see them knowing Bronson." Catherine replied, amused that Tyrus had even tried to cast in a warded room. Molly for once hadn't done a hack job, and instead seemed to have taken her time to set the wards and set them correctly. It seemed to Catherine that her Ward Breaker was starting to learn how to use her abilities for the good of others instead of just her own amusement.
"Go ahead and sleep Tyrus. If anything comes up, you will be one of the first to know."

"She's squirrelly like that." He agreed and managed a smile. "I'll try and heal soon." He promised and dozed off entirely. With Catherine there, he was safe. He wanted more details, yes, but for now, they had what they had. The team would track down his brothers soon enough and it would all have just been some kind of mistake, he was sure of it. His family was fine. It was probably just some turf war.
The mage quickly was fast asleep. He had a lot of healing to do after all, and the hospital would likely keep him fairly sleepy for awhile.
