The councilor and mage was fit to be tied with the results of the decision. He and his cronies had been out voted four to three, and with there only being seven councilors the situation often wasn't in someone's favor. But the four who had voted, had done as such out of an abundance of caution for what very well could have led to worse things. "Get a grip Agathon, you know as well as I do that this is in everyone's interest." June spoke harshly. "Now when you're ready you can rejoin the rest of the Council at the bench." She added as she followed the others out the door from the inner chambers.
"A decision has been reached." Councilor Edevane informed before he resumed his seat. "The Council has declared that it will benefit all parties involved if Lady McBride or la principessa Caterina resumes her post as Warden. In the meantime we will seek additional improvements for MCU and a suitable replacement should at the end of one year she desire to step down."

Kasimir took his seat. In the interest of caution, he was going to proceed like she was stepping down. He had an abundance of work to do to prepare for that eventuality. "The Council respectfully requests la principessa let us know of her decision to remain or leave as soon as she is certain." They had to be ready to possibly deal with a vacancy. They'd have to send out for people interested in becoming a warden. Maybe if he could break one of the larger territories into two? That would be more doable. Possibly.
It would allow him to put a more experienced warden on Dallas at least, and he could move a less experienced one in the position.
This was going to be chaos.

Catherine knew that they would struggle finding another to fill her slot, given her extensive background and training. But she was content to let them try, if only because it would get someone else to share the case load and help to wrangle the specialists. She could tell by the pained expression on Kasimir's face that he did not look forward to the chaos that he had just been dealt, the vampire hated anything to be out of order.
"I appreciate the Council's understanding and attention in this matter. Your terms are more than acceptable, however I will inform you of my decision in a week's time." She acquiesced. It would give her time to rearange a few things, but she would still be seeing to Scottlyn and Tyrus in her own downtime. There had been an abundance of it and she was eager to do something about it.

"That sounds excellent. Thank you, your highness." A week. They had a week to turn MCU over looking for some replacement, just in case. Some understudy at least. That was near enough time. A week. He wasn't going to sleep at all this week at least. He waited for Catherine to leave and turned immediately to face June. "Blackwelder, I effectively have a week to sort through MCU and potentially find a new warden for Dallas. I could use your help, if you're able?" She could be trusted mostly, to do what was right for MCU.
He wasn't going to be able to do this on his own. Not with that time frame.

"While I can help... that's effectively impossible and asking for a miracle. We don't have the pool of qualified applicants, Klein. The exam is hard enough as it is, but also few people seem to be able to adjust to having a target on their back." June replied shaking her head. There were a few specialists that could potentially be promoted early, but it was risky as there were even fewer officers to slot into the specialist position. "Eusthious has repeatedly hampered our efforts I might add."
The other Councilor's outburst earlier had certainly given the four who voted in favor cause for concern. That sort of behavior was almost garunteed to lead to bigger problems down the road. "Boyuan and Bronson aren't warden material, and besides which.. we need a few more specialists in Dallas. I'm not certain who else has the tenure as a specialist to be put forward for the exam."

"There's a smaller territory in Europe. If I can shift some around, we can appoint a new warden from there, place their former warden in a larger spot, and then take that warden to Dallas. We need one specialist who can pass the exam." They only needed the one. "We'll start another round of the specialist academy as well. It's the only option I can see, though if you can see some other option, I'm all ears."
They were in a bind. Catherine had them over a barrel and likely knew it. "We'll force the funding issue. Surely in all the Unseen, in all of MCU, there's someone who can be moved up." It was a matter of finding them. The main question was which warden could handle the troubles that came with Dallas, the politics that happened and the power needed.
He didn't know.

"That's all well and good, but the bodies just are not there Kasimir. I'm sorry." She disagreed. This was a logistical nightmare, and one that they'd be lucky if Dallas wasn't without a warden for too much longer. "I'll check the rosters for the US and Canada, hopefully we can at least find people willing to take the required track of even just an officer." June ventured. Several of the warden's that had been appointed to Dallas within the last decade had either quit altogether or been killed. It was a territory that didn't take kindly to anyone without some amount of political sense.
The southwest region, with it's relatively temperate climate and central location seemed to be something of a nexus for all walks of life in the unseen. It didn't help that leylines sat close to the surface not too far off to the north as well. That only fueled the weird and made the Dallas office have to work that much harder at combating and concealing some of the worst parts from the mundane. Out or not, their world was still one that could turn deadly very quick. "The funding is there, it doesn't require anything but a quorum to push it through. Agathon should no longer be consulted on anything.. and I fear we may have to find someone else to represent the interests of humans."

"I know they aren't." He admitted quietly. "A year won't be enough time at all, if she accepts that." There was no guarantee that she would. "But we can at least get the process started. I'll check Europe and Africa out. Both have similar issues to Dallas, so we could pull from there." Someone would be experienced at least. That would help more than a little bit, even if they still wouldn't be able to fill the needed shoes.
"And we need to find someone else. Agathon has been...stone walling everything to his own benefit." It was beyond ridiculous. "But who among the humans do we choose? Names don't loom large there any more than they do for a new Warden." Finding someone who could actually suit the position of warden was difficult at best, even in the best of times. In times like now, they'd be lucky to find a halfway competent warden.
They were screwed if she chose not to stay on.

"That's a very good point, but there's little to say she won't not accept the contingency. We both know that the parole is only a formality, and I'm sure there could be some condition met to satisfy it." June mused. Neither one of them could step down and fill the role, as Councilor was a terminal position. Either you died or you stepped down either of one's own choice or were forced. "Check Asia as well... if I recall Boyuan came out of that failed Black Lotus program years ago." There might be some suitable individuals there to fast track, depending on what they found.
"And yes, I also agree. Something needs to be done about Agathon.. but what is the question? The mage fancies himself fitter than Tyrus Rahal, and is bitter because it might not be true." In all honesty, she felt that Agathon put to much faith in his own limited abilities. Tyrus meanwhile was completely confident in his and didn't feel the need to flaunt it, although both were given to gaudy jewelry at times.

"Asia doesn't have the same leyline situation, but it has a few similar." He could check there. "I'll pull the rosters of possible wardens. No one will come close to our...potentially retiring one, but they're due for a review anyway." He really hoped Catherine stayed on. "Someone will have come close enough to passing the test that they can re-take. I'll send out a request for names interested in becoming a specialist as well." That would be the easier part. More specialists would make a future pool easier to pull from. It was a matter of finding people who could actually pass the testing and academy for that as well.
"And I think I would pay good money to see Agathon try and go up against Tyrus Rahal. It'd be like watching someone swat a fly." Agathon would be sore for weeks afterwards, if not months, but it would be worth it to see happen. "We're just lucky Rahal is distractable."

"We'll start with the easy part.. I think Dallas has a few officers in it's own ranks that are likely good candidates for specialist." June suggested. It would take them the better part of the week just to evaluate what resources they did have. Even then it wasn't a promise that those resources would last the year, people got killed, retired, or placed on medical leave. That was without the slew of magical incidents and maladies that came with the job. "Mapping these assets will likely take until we hear back from Dumitrescu. Let's just hope the gods are in our favor and she decides to agree."
June then snorted with amusement at the idea of Agathon and Tyrus going at it. "Oh I would too. Rahal would murder the poor bastard, and he'd deserve it too." The idea of going up against a vampire court trained battle mage was suicide. Entertaining none the less given Agathon's attitudes towards other magic users, somehow he seemed to think he was the pincale of both mage and human. Sadly that wasn't the case and he was in fact someone whose bark was worse than his bite. "No, we're lucky that Rahal has his hands full with Broadmoore and can't go spoiling for a fight."

"Let's go get the paperwork. I know the specialists we already have by name, but I don't keep up with the officers." Keeping up with the specialists was a work in and of itself. "Do you know what occurred to me when that idiot suggested we put Catherine back in Broadmoore? Tyrus considers himself her best friend. He could just...let her out. And there wouldn't be a lot we could do about it." There was no holding either of them.
"Two individuals and the council essentially gives them what they want. We're lucky they're both sedate." If they were at all malevolent, they'd be screwed. It was lucky that the two largely wanted to be left alone and that Catherine had gone along with their demands thus far.

"Gods know why Tyrus thinks that, I've never seen her hold much interest for anything other than work or her nephew." June commented shaking her head. She felt that Tyrus's loyalty was misplaced and that that was more than likely going to be his downfall. "I don't think he'd persay just let her out, but he'd definitely do something of that nature." She added. It had been a lucky break that they'd even been able to hold her in the insitution, and that alone had taken extrodinary measures to keep her drugged and dilerious.
"You're right, we're lucky though. Thank the gods that neither of those two want to watch the world burn. As for officers... there's one whose been working for sometime with Dallas, Maria Zhang. She's smart, resourceful, and knows her stuff. Not terribly gifted magically, but I'm pretty sure she could pass the specialist exam."

"And already used to Dallas." He noted. "We'll see if she's interested. You don't need magic to be a specialist. Boyuan already proves that much." And did it well, even with the handicap of her partner. "We can move the fae child to another office. Preferably a less active one, given her age. Unfortunately, her parole includes being a specialist. We can't just send her home." And while it was good she was tied down somehow, it still wasn't good to have a teenager as a specialist. "The question is what is the quietest office we have."
They were essentially responsible for a fae child who was just as much trouble as any fae out there and had the abilities, thankfully locked up, to spread her mischief where she willed.

"We could move her.. but also one thing at a time. Currently a lot of our offices are busy due to the fact that the unseen is rather public again. She also got moved to Dallas from another office, and after her incident is mostly keeping her head down." June hadn't seen any further reports of mayhem from Molly, but she also hadn't looked too terribly hard either. "We can't risk loosing a ward breaker, they're too valuable and I think the kid knows it." She added. Wardbreakers often didn't want to work with the MCU or Council.
Half of the reluctance was due to the fact that for the longest time they had been understaffed and overworked. Often others in the unseen could find a job that paid better than that, even if it meant going into a mundane office from nine to five everyday. "I'll have someone talk to Zhang and go from there. Sound good?"
