It was a good thing he had a smart phone. It had made calling Carter easier, given he could just use voice commands. Otherwise, he wasn't certain what he'd do. The mage had directed Carter to come to the ranch and to bring Tyrus' laptop from the office with him. They'd be working from home today and Tyrus would brief Carter and Cruor on the why one he arrived. Then he had made it clear the work day would start at 11. That would give him sufficient time, probably, to figure out his shampoo probably, and wash the mud out of his hair and dry his hair, which took entirely too long. The fact that this would take most of the morning was a little ridiculous, but he had built in extra time given the whole blindness issue. It was complicating matters a great deal more than he liked.
He had ended up having toast this morning since that was the only thing he could figure out right now. How the hell was he supposed to pour anything right now? He couldn't see to do so! How would he know when the glass was too full? He'd have to ask Carter's help for damn near everything, wouldn't he? This better just be a side effect of some sort and temporary. If it was permanent he'd be screwed.
Cleaned, dried, and with his hair braided once more, Tyrus waited for his personal assistant and his familiar to arrive. He had directed him to use one of the ATVs and follow the path, such as it was, to get here. Hopefully he'd be able to. The path was pretty faint. If Carter got lost on the ranch, he was calling the cavalry, and by that, he meant he was calling his sire and asking for help.
The living room where he waited was tastefully done in greens, with two plush couches, one short, one long. There was a large TV, with a bookcase on either side, and the modern style side tables were laden with books and notebooks. Almost blending in with the heavy technical books that he used for his planning was a single fiction book, closed with a bookmark in it, waiting to be read. It would be a bit before he could finish it. Maybe he should check to see if there was an audiobook version.
Around the corner was his kitchen, and farther back in the house were his study and bedroom. He would need to let Carter into both. This entire thing felt like a complete violation. Catherine he had been willing to let in. She was his sire and he was trying to build some kind of relationship with her. Carter was his employee, if the one he worked with most often. It was a very different matter.

Carter and his cruor never were far from each other for long. Though more due to the pact than friendliness at first, the pseudodragon developed a more calm demeanor as Carter had more free time due to his new position. Cruor wore his glamor on the way to the ranch as they arrived about 10a figuring the roads were not particularly paved but was told there would be ATVs. Both disembarked from the lifted truck where the two atvs parked but all that remained scattered in rubber wheels and hoses along the parking area.
"Somebody boosted the both of em it looks like", said the scruffy mullet wearing Cruor in a biker glamor with a vest instead of leathers. Cruor didn't much object as it made the prissy big boss happy and didn't get Carter in trouble. Besides he kinda looked like of those old Mafia movies from the tv.
While not a suit for practical reasons Carter absorbed a sense of compatible style from Tyrus over time. If nothing else than from quizzing a cleaner or tailor when sent to them. The clothes weren't expensive but we'll made and easy to clean. Especially when he had to make boiler repairs at Broadmore.
He sighed then returned to the truck as Carter's blond head stuck out the driver window. Looking around the area for metal bits found none before backing onto some grass.
Carter called out, "Well I'm not walking that far that's for sure. Who the hell would steal an ATV and leave the rubber parts behind?"
Cruor tightened his suspenders a wide grin on his face as he walked over, "Meth heads probably! Brass balls on anybody stealing from this place, ha! We smashin along that itty bitty path to get there?"
Carter got out a cb headset mounted to a strange halter and dangled them with a smile, "I'm not running over things at his house. Though I'm thinking nobody will see a strange red bird out this far. Can you figure out where the house is by air and call out directions?"
Cruor laughed with good humor as Carter had the good sense not to order him to do things, "Twist my arm why don't ya! Bout time I got to flex my wings! I'll take a tire so big boss don't think I'm lyin'. Wouldn't want him to think you love sleeping in till noon!"
A short word in a sharp tongue dropped the glamor for a paper to flutter in the sky. The pseudodragon in flowing crimson pattern appeared to snatch at the runed paper. It went into the satchel at his hip. Fitting the halter on and snapping clips into place Cruor hot the power then transmit.
"Test, test, why ain't we figured out telepathy yet? Over.", Echoed from the pseudodragon and Carter's radio.
Carter replied over the headset with a bow pressing shut over gold slit eyes, "Roger, loud and clear. Definitely easier to open that door than to close. Time to move before we end up late, over."
Cruor reached up and adjusted a dial with the curve of one claw,"Woo, heard that. Need to turn that down from Manowar. 'Alright, just keep up if your can. It's kinda tirin' keeping altitude in circles."
Though the CB it didn't take Cruor long to figure out where the house was. Even if the path there that a truck could pass through was a bit windy even if the 4x4 could cross terrain a car couldn't. Carter would have to drive around a bit as the thin road wound between hills where the atv path went straight across gullies and between trees. Once on the home stretch he banked then braced to land in front on the grass
A loud flapping and bits of scattering stone announced Cruor's arrival. Bosses house was fancy as all hell least compared to him and Carter's place. The tack of scaled clawed feet went up to the door as looked for a doorbell to knuckle or just rap on the wood. Cruor checked his pocket watch after and found it a bit shy of 11 but close enough.
A voice tinged by the harsh throat of the draconic called out after knocking, "Hey boss! Your ATV ain't feeling so good this morning neither!"

Tyrus opened the door. "Come in Cruor. I take it Carter isn't far behind?" He looked out, but didn't see the other, such as it was. Would he even be able to? How magical was Carter anyway? Cruor was easy enough to make out at least. "And what do you mean? Do I need to take it to a mechanic?" That would be annoying as hell under the circumstances. He really didn't want to have to figure out a mechanic right now. He had one, of course, though if they did ATVs, he wasn't sure.
He couldn't see the tire that Cruor brought however.
The mage was dressed much more casually than Carter or Cruor had ever seen him. In cargo shorts and a t-shirt, he didn't look his usual refined self. He hadn't seen the point in putting on a suit however, under the circumstances. Either way, given the stark difference, he'd be surprised if the two weren't a little shocked to see him.
Unbeknownst to Tyrus, his unseeing eyes still glowed orange-red. The pupils had dimmed as less, not reacting to the light outside at all.

Cruor looked at the dusty tire to wisely leave it on the porch leaning against the wall. Though the boss looked at him weird it was not seeing the huge tire that clued him in.
Though a concerned curiosity dampened his jocular tone,"Yeah, Carter can't flap his arms hard enough to fly. He's 15 minutes out on the road with the four by."
Cruor tapped in closer though brushed his feet on the doormat. He'd seen druggies with eyes that don't work but not that way. Way too normal-like for it either.
The huff of Cruor checking Tyrus' scent interspersed Cruor's continued reply, "I was carrying all we saw left of it, hoss. Tires, hoses, and leather. Spent my solstice hiding with my favorite mechanic so's I can protect the new suit. You gonna need a whole new ride. What happened to you?"

"My solstice went very, very wrong." He said simply. "I'll have to buy a new ATV then. At least two survived." What the hell happened to his ATVs? Boyuan probably had some sort of idea. "Not that I'll be using them until this heals." However long that took. "I'll have to ask Carter to handle that. Along with any of damages that need fixed." It had been an eventful solstice, apparently in more ways than he had initially thought.
The man sighed. "I'll explain more once Carter arrives. It'd be best to not repeat it, I think." He didn't want to repeat it after all. "In the mean time, I think I have beef jerky in the pantry, if you'd like some." He was pretty sure he did at least.

"Think I hear him now. Must be on electric."
Cruor looks through a window as he hears the deep humm of the four by's electric motor rolling closer. The mountain fae wouldn't tolerate a running diesel engine and Carter could regulate a power supply out of somethin' elemental mage even if the two forces didn't take it long. Still had the throaty diesel for backup generator though. Broadmoore wasn't the only place Carter had to haul boilers out of and to for repairs.
Cruor made a thumbs up though he want sure the boss could see, "Thanks! Gotta say the thermals here are rough too. The magic on this place packed together somethin' fierce."
Cruor left for the kitchen somewhat famished after getting blown around carrying a tire. Cruor opened a few doors in the kitchen before finding the pantry. It was like Carter's workshop in here so many damn knobs. His nose led to a small bag of cured jerky and returned with it as Carter knocked.
Cruor jumped at the knock then called at the door slowly opening, "Fff.. our by don't have any right to be that silent!"
"Battery power! Cruor? I saw the tire outside." Chimed Carter from the door then slowly let himself in.
Carter was only just slightly dusty, "Mr Rahal? How are you doing?"

"Not that great Carter. Did you bring my laptop?" He offered a small, uncomfortable smile. "There was a problem on the solstice and it cost me my vision. I'm going to have to take some time off of Broadmoore. I'll still need your help though." He could at least get verbal reports on how everything was going. It wasn't much, but it was better than nothing. "And I'm afraid your job duties are about to change a bit."
That was putting it mildly. "Apparently including buying a few things for me, while I recuperate. I'm hoping it's only temporary, but it's difficult to say." He hadn't seen a specialist yet. He'd need to, but wasn't sure where to even begin. He was sure he'd need his assistant's help to get around, to call the doctor and set up the appointment. For everything for a little while.

Carter entered with the satchel in his far hand. The bag was a ruggedized one for his own use though it held rahal's laptop in the padded core. The bag unzipped he ufolds it in half and points at a nearby chair.
The man himself a human wasn't quite as luminous as the ritualistically perturbed pseudodragon though absent the distraction of sight it made him more obvious as the owner of a geas and not a familiar. Certainly a geas writ to confine another though by another hand than his own. Subtle marks of tree sprits struck against his person forming its pattern. Carter's main skills were in transfiguration, alchemy, and animation. Something certainly a curious engineer found joy in and he was quite good at them for a human.
Carter tried to be optimistic in light of the problem, "Change is the essence of learning. I'll be happy to lend you a hand some eyes till you get better. Will you need me to stay here? I'm done with broadmoore's other boiler so I won't have to be at my workshop for a while."

"Please. I'm going to need your help setting up some appointments as well. I was able to call you thanks to siri, but I don't have my doctor's number in my phone." And he would need the help. "Though I am reluctant to see him, given he's the court doctor. I'm not sure where else to go. I'm also going to have to dictate to you what I want to send to Michelle." Michelle being the assistant director. He'd need to contact her over the entire thing. That was going to be entirely too much fun. He wasn't looking forward to it at all.
He wasn't looking forward. "I'll also need to go to the dealership to get some new ATVs, and then they have to be inscribed with protective ruins. I can direct that, but I'll need you to do the actual inscription. There are other things as well, but that's enough to get started, I believe." It was going to be a very busy day. "I'm able to see magic at least, so I think if we lay down some magic I'll be better able to navigate my house and pantry." Among other things. There was a lot that needed to be done.

Carter looked at Cruor as the pseudodragon shrugged with a mouthful of jerky. The place was swank he definitely didn't mind staying.
Plans and projects swirled in is mind for a moment before being shelved for later, "Some sight is better than nothing. It's a lot like walking around your house with thermal googles I guess. If there is a room or a couch for us to sleep on then between the two of us you should have someone nearby at all times."
There was some rummaging as Carter extracted his own toughbook from the bag, "I'm used to alchemically anodized sigils but I can do the manual etching and inscription you need."
Cruor purred and added the golden eyes brightly sparkling with a less empty stomach, "I'm already an email program for Carver. Long as you have the fancy words for miss Michelle I can type em. Gotta be easier than the tech stuff."
A thought occurred to Carter as he considered getting to a doctor, "Didn't you have a convertible though? I didn't see it in your driveway. My truck is only a two seater."

"I won't need someone overnight." He said very firmly. "Just until dinner is fine. We'll have to label my soaps with magic, but I should be fine after then. You need more rest than I do, and I can find an evening aid for nay court work I have to do." That would be all too much fun. "And thank you Cruor, but I think it would be best coming from my e-mail address. That's why I asked for my laptop. Carter, could you cancel my meetings for the week. Reschedule what you can for next week, and add what can't be rescheduled to Michelle's calendar." She'd figure out how to balance it. That was part of her job as well. "My laptop is already set up for the wi fi here. The password is domi_interrete39." He spelled it out for Carter so he'd know.
"And if the convertible is gone, then I'll need a new one too. Which means a trip to the dealership." He'd be paying cash of course. He had the money after all. And having a car was too important to skip out on. "I'll get the newest model, but you'll probably have to fill out the paperwork."

Carter was partly relieved even if that meant he didn't actually get much sleep if birds started showing up with his own emergencies. Though since his workshop improved fewer those happened with better machining. Those mountain Sylvans didn't send email.
"That's fine we can leave at dinner. A replacement ATV will ease the commute a bit. I can probably have the dealer deliver to the gate of you have a specific one in mind. I'll start moving appointments around."
Cruor got to or before Carter with a bow raised, "Can you see the screen to send email, boss?"
The blonde head perked up from starting his toughbook and with some facial contortions of consideration and options decided just to listen.

"I'll have to have you guys open outlook and type for me. The important part was that it comes from my e-mail." He managed a sad smile. "And no preference on ATV. Get a high-end one. The ranch is big. Something with good gas mileage and a good sized tank." It was good to have decent gas mileage, among other things. "It just has to be something we can inscribe runes on. The more metal the better. Plastic is terrible for runes." It would probably take some research to meet what he wanted, truth told.
Still, he could open his laptop himself and he moved to the kitchen to put it on his round table and open it up, powering it on. "Let me know when it gets to the password screen. I don't need to see to put my password in." He just had to start on the right keys and that was easy enough. He was confident he could manage it at least.

"Hmm... well let me see. I think functional would be better around here even if it doesn't look that pretty, " Said carver as he busied with looking up a few manufacturer listings.
Cruor circled the table on all fours the meaty wings from his back held up high. The clack of his claws circled the table in pairs since he was more comfortable as a partial biped in his natural form. On his haunches, Fingers wiggling to limber them up to type without damaging keys turned the laptop toward himself and started for the mail. An instant appraisal told him it was worth a fair bit too but he knew that was the greed talking. The laptop booted up as quickly as it was expensive and Cruor turned the laptop back to Tyrus.
Cruor shook his head to tamp down the impulse to collect back down, "Nnnn. There you go boss, blinky thing on the password box. No worries I won't look."
Carter offered the more obvious choice first for rugged things, "Well Polaris WV80 has a military-grade ATV with all-metal construction and automatic transmission. I'm pretty sure you can swap out the electronic ignition for a turbodesiel engine if complex tech is a concern. Airless polymer wheels can keep going for 350 miles if taking a BMG round. Primary and fuel reserve."

Tyrus typed in the password by route and hit enter. He got it done right the first time and turned the laptop back to Cruor. "Thank you. Can you navigate to outlook for me? And I don't need a military grade ATV. That would be over kill. Go for something a bit more basic than that. I will need four ATVs total. There's two farther out in the ranch, so long as they survived the night. I'm going to need the two of you to retrieve them." There should be four ATVs total, more than he had ever needed before, but good to have on hand, just in case. The three from yesterday had been more than he had needed in a long time, and two of them were now stranded. He considered things a moment. "You'll need a spell to locate them. I'm afraid I'm going to be adding to your plate for awhile now." He had a lot that needed done. Including, apparently, getting a new car. He may not be able to drive just yet, but he'd still need a way to get around once his eyes healed.
And they would heal. They had to. He wasn't going to give them a choice otherwise.
