"I think she's doing fine Tyrus. First days are just that, firsts." Catherine testified. She suspected that this was going to be a common scene now that Tyrus had been turned and enfolded into the court. "Don't worry Maria, she's seelie and not unseelie." She then assured the woman, but it wasn't like that made much difference sometimes. Molly's pranks could be quite dangerous once she figured out that most of her coworkers wouldn't die from them or were at least very hardy. "Besides which, most of her time in the office is spent with her partner, Lt. Boyuan a null." That alone did wonders for grounding out the chaos that Molly seemed to radiate, and limited most of the pranks to things of a physical nature now that the other was bound as a punishment for defacing council property.
"Most of the specialists and even wardens have an unusual background." She added. It wasn't unusual and often it was the driving force that propelled officers on to specialist and even warden for a few. "The fae aren't that unusual, just secretive as their kind often aren't thought of kindly thanks to a lack of understanding of their culture." Catherine fortunately knew the culture as her own, but that didn't stop her from being aggravated with Molly's antics. It just seemed to mean that she had a higher tolerance than others for whatever the young fae could think up.
"You seem anxious though, is there something I'm not understanding?" Catherine asked. The warden was extordinarily gifted at reading her officers, but most of that stemmed from her own place in the unseen as a vampire and psionic.

Maria's eyes darted to Tyrus who was cheerfully taking another bite of the whatever meat Monmack was feeding him this time. It was yummy, and that was all the mage cared about. She swallowed, then met Catherine's eyes. "I'm just feeling out of place, ma'am. I'm not exactly...I'm good at investigation. And I'm good at herblore and decent at healing. But I'm no fae." And the fact that she was working with one was intimidating. Everyone knew that fae used magic as easily as they breathed.
Maria struggled to cast mage sight when she was tired, and couldn't have done an off the cuff trick like recreating the projector remote if she tried. Not even with preparation. She was feeling in over her head on so many levels and didn't quite know how to handle it.
It felt like her first day on the force all over again. In a way, it was too. "And I don't have an unusual background. I'm fairly normal, all things considered." She was Unseen, but she wasn't anything special. She didn't have a tragic back story or anything like that.

Catherine cringed inwardly at being called ma'am, it reminded her too much of how the servants in Tatianna's palace addressed people. The Dragon Court wasn't any different either, it was either la pricipessa or ladyship, both titles that often chaffed. "Those are all things we need, Maria. " She encouraged. Catherine could tell that this newest specialist wasn't nearly as self assured as Molly or Xiaolian had been, but instead was a lot more anxious and uncertain. It reminded her that she needed to slow down and take time with her newest team member.
"Not everyone is terribly magical, Xiaolian is a null." Catherine didn't add that the lieutenant was also a ratatoskr. That would only serve to intimidate Maria further, and it wasn't like Xiaolian used the ability much anyway. The woman seemed content to be a grounding null and do investigative work.
"Besides it seems like you say normal like it's a bad thing."

"I'll adjust." She admitted and blushed slightly. "I've just always been a little self-conscious about my abilities." she had them, she knew she did. she also knew that she was, in no way, as talented as some of the others were. But she was good enough to pass the exam and they weren't easy. She had done it though and done a good job at it too. Top five was nothing to sneeze at. ""And it's just a little unusual being normal when surrounded by people with fantastic backgrounds. And it feels like everyone on the team is likely to have one. I mean, a fae? What is a fae doing in the human realm? There must be a story behind it and I'm curious but it's probably nothing she wants to share."
And it would be rude to ask. Maria was nothing if not polite. She wasn't going to ask that at all. "I suppose MCU is just full of amazing people." and she didn't feel amazing.
Tyrus cleared his throat and smiled to her. "You'll fit in, in time. In the meantime, do either of you have any more questions?" He was busy after all, and they all knew it. The scene was sweet and all, but they could, frankly, be having this heart to heart somewhere where he wasn't eating.

Catherine shot Tyrus a glare that almost promised misery during their next training session. Half of this discussion was no thanks to him and his comments for Molly's need for supervision. "Put a sock in it mage, not like you're doing anything except having lunch and reading your email. Of which is mostly junk." She commented rudely. He still tended to broadcast, either intentionally or unintentionally, and she couldn't help but pick it up, and it had been an off day given the circumstances both professional and personal.
Catherine could be acerbic and abrasive as a warden, today wasn't any exception. Warden Dumitrescu was someone that most of the unseen didn't want to see or have any desire to have a reason to speak with. Her reputation was that she was a bit mad and often didn't have the power to back anything up. In essence, most of them saw her as a joke and that she had earned her position based on priviledge instead of skill.
"There is one more thing, I'll need a list of psychiatric cases referred to you here at Broadmoore from the area around Cedar Ridge. You'll find all the papers are in order for that request too." She informed him. That would give her some idea of the epicenter of where they needed to look specifically, his crystal be damned. They had solved cases long before he ever come along, and while Tyrus had been useful, he was clearly too busy to be of use anymore.

"I'll have it fast tracked." He'd say he'd see to it himself, but that would only slow it down. He could not wait until he could be free of this position. It was hell, it truly was. He finished off his lunch and set it to the side. "We have had an influx from the Dallas area." That much he could recall off the top of his head. "Slightly above average, though we weren't concerned just yet." But it sounded like they should have been. Oh well, he wasn't all knowing. Of course, he had no doubt that he'd pay for his lip at their next training session, but he could give as good as he got as far as he was concerned. He was much more hardy now, after all.
"And I'll work on the crystal tonight. It shouldn't take too long, I just don't have the materials to do it now." He'd need the right crystal among other things. And that meant checking out quite a bit of his stones and finding the right one for the job. Finding one compatible with blood magic was tricky, and it would be a blood magic spell that managed this. Like attracted to like after all. He planned on making it a short cut. Though he wasn't going to mention that in front of the new kid. He didn't know her from Adam after all. she could be dangerous. Or could have a big mouth. Either was trouble.

"See that you do. We don't need any more problems with this investigation than there already are." Catherine's expression was neutral as she confirmed that the system fast track would be necessary, but her eyes meanwhile had a hardness and intensity to them. With a possible victim or suspect missing, they weren't sure which one the man was yet, things had in typical fashion on very pearshaped and fast. The only thing she hadn't done was ask Maria to hit the ground running, but she was almost certain that that's what the specialist thought had been asked of her.
"But slightly above average? What's your case rate here Tyrus?" She pushed, not liking the soft phrasing of what was really going on. Catherine would have really perferred not to have to dump the records onto Baird's desk, but that wasn't something that anyone else on her team would know. "I would be concerned with slightly above average." An uptick from an area that hadn't had any influcing factors that were outwardly visible was a cause for concern in her mind. Just whether or not Tyrus thought it was would be another question altogether. But it seemed like he wasn't going to give her that information off the top of his head. It was looking more and more like Evaline Baird was going to have her monday go sour and quickly. The ME detested anything to do with records or really Catherine in general. The warden was amazed that the woman even stuck around when she could have likely had a job anywhere else.
Right now however, failure was the thing that weighed heavy on her mind. They could not fail in catching whoever was responsible and seccuring the artefact. It still worried her that the Council would find a way to negate her freedom, and given Agathon's behavior at the last hearing rightfully so. "I don't need the crystal immediately. But I may have more information for you later." Catherine added as she stood up to leave.

"Of course. I'm always happy to help MCU." Even if he did charge them through the nose every time. He never said he was happy to help for free after all. That was two different things. Still, on the note of his case rate he frowned. "I'd have to look up the exact numbers. My job is...significantly more political than anything else." Still, he knew some of the broader ideas at least. The broad ideas were the majority of his job. He hesitated a moment. "I'd say we're getting maybe three or four more from Dallas than expected in a month. Most are out-patient services, but a few we've had to treat in-patient." The unseen was huge. But even then, three or four more a month was concerning.
The question had been how concerning. "It was brought to my attention, but I don't know the full details. I'll have someone put together a briefing for you on our incidence rates for the Dallas area." Being sent to Broadmoore for mental health services was serious. Being sent there for the non-mental health services was more serious. "It'll cover both sides of Broadmoore's services." That was the polite way of saying the prison and the asylum. Services. As if they were merely a business and not what they were.
