"No thanks." She hung up before he could. They better find the director soon. As it was, Aerilyn turned the last turn into the parking lot of the bail bondsman and wrinkled er nose, parking and tucking in a handgun from the glove compartment. This place was seedy. Great. Ahmad didn't get to find out where exactly she got his bail from. He'd gt all nervous all over again. she smiled fondly and sighed. Her husband.
He was a goof. He had the weakest stomach she knew, but he was still amazing. Now to bail him out of jail.

The bondsman's office was tucked between a substandard pizza chain with questionably clean floors and a massage parlor with conveniently opaque windows. Inside, two incredibly anxious women waited in shabby seats for the staff behind a filthy plexiglass window to call them up.
Terra was full of places like these.

Aerilyn signed her name down on the list of people and joined the two anxious women in waiting for the staff to call them up. Arianne was going to be fine. Now she had to make certain that her husband got out tonight. She didn't want to actually call in a favor from any of the Gambit's regulars. That would be the opposite of ideal.
For the most part she was patient, fidgeting with her phone and texting her coworkers who were wanting to know what was up. It hadn't taken long for her to spill the beans either, if only from the sheer pressure that they had expertly applied. Bartenders were the absolute worst at needing to know things. At least she new they could keep their mouths shut.
It wasn't too long before she was called up and Aerilyn came to the window, ready to get this over with. Her husband was waiting.

"The name's Uujykilaaa'mth, but you can call me Jack." The guy behind the front desk looked nothing like a Jack. "How this works is you pay ten percent of the bail amount to us, and we pay the whole amount to the court. We keep what you pay us because that's our fee. And if your husband jumps bail - flees or misses a court date - we send a bounty hunter after him."
(That was the part where one of the women with shaking shoulders started openly crying.)

"No problem." They had the money in savings and she had already transferred it to checking for just this purpose. "Bail was set at fifty thousand. His name is Ahmad Fazari." And this was going to one hundred percent be chaos itself. It was lucky they had the money. Not that they would have it much longer. "How do I pay you?" At least she knew that Ahmad was not going to be running away. He had more sense than that. This was incredibly awkward though. Five thousand dollars as a fee to get her husband out of prison.
It was worth it though. He'd never last long at all in jail.

Uujykilaaa'mth explained the process for payment and the paperwork patiently and not unkindly, showing Aerilyn with a few taps of one of his six fingers where on the various screens on his desk console she needed to sign, and handing her warm, fresh printed paper copies of the entire stack of documents where she'd agreed to the terms of the bond. Once they'd completed the paperwork and Aerilyn had transferred the funds, Uujykilaaa'mth gestured to a dingy alcove to her left. "I've got a Chocolate Altar in there, and you're welcome to help yourself to anything you want. Chocolate cookies. Chocolate cake. Hot chocolate. Chocolate fudge. You name it; I've got it. I find it makes this whole process a bit less awful, y'know?"

"Fudge sounds nice." She accepted. "Thank you. And Ahmad's bail will be paid today? He'll be able to leave the jail today?" And overnight visit would not be good for him at all. She wanted her husband out of the jail and safe. This entire situation was ridiculous and she knew it was a good part his fault, but she still desperately wished that it hadn't have happened at all.
Ahmad was not the sort of person who could handle being in a jail. He was not made of the sort of stuff that would allow it. she was the brawns in this relationship, she would have been fine. But her nerd was just that. A nerd. He'd be eaten alive.

"I'm already sending the funds over today," Uujykilaaa'mth said, with a few swipes of his fingers. "You'll have to stop by the jail yourself, though. They should be able to process him out today by nine tonight, unless they've got something like two hundred people processing in and out at once. Worst case, it'll be first thing in the morning, around five."
"If you don't mind too much, I've got to finish helping these ladies over here, now." Uujykilaaa'mth tapped the desk. "Are you going to be all right on your own?"

Aerilyn thanked him one last time, took a piece of chocolate fudge and headed to the car. Given she was going back to the station, she made sure the blanket in the back covered any guns or ammo and disarmed herself again by locking the handgun in the glove compartment. She felt naked. They couldn't take her magic from her at least.
The deaf woman drove back to the station and asked around before she found where she was supposed to wait for Ahmad to be released. Pulling out her phone to fidget with, she waited mostly patiently for him to be returned to her.
Hopefully he wouldn't be too shaken by everything.
Distracting herself, she texted Leimgrüber about the director, reminding him that she could help.

The response from Leimgrüber was as short as it was predictable: "You don't work here anymore, Aerilyn."
After that, silence.
At the jail, Ahmad's release was a blessedly much simpler affair. Some signed papers and returned shoelaces later, Ahmad came out a back door of the building around six, flushed, perspiring, and frazzled in the eyes, but otherwise not much worse for the wear than he'd been when pulled over earlier.
"I just want to go home and sleep..."

Aerilyn smiled at the sight of him and headed over to join him. "Then lets get you home." she offered and took his hand. "Come on. The car is this way." And there wasn't a gun in the passenger seat. That had happened in the past. she squeezed his hand and smiled to him. He looked like a wreck, but he was fine. She had no doubt the food had been terrible and the wait long, but he was out now, and it was going to be okay. "We need to contact a lawyer. But that can wait for you to get some rest, I think."
She was not the cerebral one of the two. he'd have to make that decision.

"Yeah, I'm just completely done with today." Ahmad rubbed his face, then stretched for a moment, before getting in the passenger seat of Aerilyn's car and leaning the seat back as far as it would go. Once the doors were shut and they were both comfortably inside, Ahmad looked directly over at Aerilyn. "Thanks for saving my ass. So. What did you find out? Does Johannes know anything?"

"Of course. and he told me they have it handled, but it's right to be concerned. He also told me I no longer work there, so I get the feeling he doesn't want me to butt in anymore." Anything else he'd have to handle. "But you'll be the acting director for a bit, it seems." That wasn't anybody's idea of fun. She shrugged and considered what she had seen.
"I think she was taken from her home. But it wouldn't have looked like a kidnapping, given her door was locked and very little was disturbed." It was suspicious as hell. "You'll get a briefing as to whats up, probably." More than likely at least. He'd know more than she did, that was for sure. Still, she understood why she was being shut out. Leimgrüber was right too. She no longer worked there and her knowing anything else was a security risk.

Ahmad groaned audibly. He covered his eyes with a hand. "No. I like not being in charge. Being in charge is the worst. It's Director Drulović's job." At mention of the director's name, though, his tone sombered. "I'll check in. I'll go home and shower, and then head back to headquarters. Ugh. I was looking forward to tonight's quest..." He shook his head. "We'll figure it out. We have to."

She sighed and headed home. "Hey. They'll find her. They always do." It just took time. Hopefully this time, hopefully, the director wasn't being tortured. Aerilyn sobred and sighed. "When she gets back, tell her to find a better place for her spare key. The azalea bushes are a terrible hiding place." But very much like the director. She sighed and considered how to handle it. "I told Leimgrüber that if he needed me to call on me. They've probably got better suited agents, but I figured I should at least offer."
It wasn't much, but she could do it and she did do it.
