Plot: In the world of Arras, a plague has plunged the world into chaos. Basically, it reanimates the dead. No one is sure whether it is a contagion or if magic is at work. All that is known is that basically anyone who is killed can reawaken as a zombie. It is time to survive and find out what is reanimating the dead and how to stop it.
Arras: The world of Arras is a magical world. Before the outbreak it was pretty modern with vehicles powered by mana crystals, trains etc. Mages and wizards worked in various fields from police to medicine. But many magic users were taken by surprise. Arras has varying landscapes from plains to forests to deserts and tundras, even icy areas. The largest cities had millions of inhabitants. The largest was Arfantire which had over 10 million inhabitants and was the capital of one of Arras' many nations. But it seems Arfantire or somewhere near it was ground zero of the plague.
The plague: A contagion or a curse that reanimates the dead into aggressive zombies that attack and eat the living. Origin was likely Arfantire, the capital of Zamdes. The plague is not yet global and some nations have blocked off the borders, killing anyone who gets too close. But it is sure that at least half of Arras is affected. The immunity rate is roughly 1%, which means Arfantire probably has 110,000 who are immune but real numbers of survivors there are around 50,000 because many succumbed to the zombie attacks.
Zombies: Zombies are not just zombies. The stronger the zombies were in life, they are stronger in death. Wizards may for example still possess magical power or enough intelligence to communicate with non-zombies and control other zombies or if powerful enough they may become outright lichs. There are also physically strong zombies. To kill a zombie or to prevent someone from turning into one after death, you must destroy the brain. It works in 98% of the cases. In the other 2%, it is possible that a zombie may still live without a head but can only rely on touch as sight and sound are gone for them. In such cases, burning the zombie will eliminate it.
Sentient races/species: In Arras, there are various races/species. To name most of them, there are humans, orcs, elves, dwarves, animalians (human animal hybrids), trolls, goblins and demons. The rarest races or species are demons and trolls. Humans and elves are the most common. Often demons will claim they are elves as they can easily be mistaken for elves as they have pointed ears and are rather tall. Orcs are rare but not too rare and have pointed ears, green skin and a rather bulky body. Animalians aren't too rare either but single subtypes of animalians may be rare. The most common animalians are catpeople, dogpeople and foxpeople. Dwarves are about half as tall as humans and are the third most common race in Arras.
Magic jobs: Wizard, mage, battlemage, necromancer (although necromancy is illegal in many nations), summoner, alchemist etc.
Weapons: In the current age, the most common weapons among non-magic users are long blades and crossbows, rarely gunblades powered by mana crystals. Magic users use focus staves, gunblades and other magical weaponry.
